Was very impressed with the progress Story has made -I remember him as a decent junior but he's really made strides - so much more power and good movement too
Lui also was looking pretty good - excellent movement, although less outright power
Finn played three games and then his opponent (Mischker) retired so hard to say....
Indy Spink was never a player I really rated and nothing's changed - she has a wonderful physique for tennis and good technique (and won her match easily) but just hits it as hard as she can down the centre and then refuses to run if called upon
Isabellla Wong carried on her good run - although Jizel hardly put up much opposition, tbh
Good match between Erin Pearce and Jaqui Ogunwale (although a few highly dodgy calls/decisions/complaints - the least said the better - but it's noted !)
(I'd thought that the semi would be THE match to see, against Story - they were the two real quality players there - an excellent level of tennis for the event - both probably playing about ATP 800 level, I'd say (and slightly backed up by the fact that they both beat players ranked 1000 or so quite easily)
But the town of Giffnock which is indeed the location, and also held a tour event in 2021, is in East Renfrewshire, about 7 miles south west of Glasgow.
Tomatos/tomatoes Giff.....Griff..... And East Renfrewshire?
I was going to say that it is the council area east of West Renfrewshire. But evidently West Renfrewshire doesn't exist. Looking at a map it is the council area south east of Renfrewshire.
Renfrewshire contains Paisley, the home to St Mirren, the greatest team in err Renfrewshire
( Renfrewshire was one of the historic old counties but with various reorganisations we have been left with various compass points nonsense. The western past of the old Renfrewshire, to the west of the current Renfrewshire, will be West Renfrewshire then? No, that's Inverclyde, home to the best team in Inverclyde and the previous dirtiest team and allegedly people in the old Renfrewshire, Greenock Morton - memories of our mascot Paisley Panda washing himself in front of the Morton fans and getting warned by the SFA )
Well, in this event full of people called wonderful Scottish names like Euan Mackenzie, Ruairidh Fraser, Euan Mcintosh, Scott Macaulay, and many more, the final two standing in the men's are:
JB Pickard is an Ilkely Club home member and currently at college in the US. He beat Clay, the top seed, but got squeezed out of the final, against Ben Hudson, 3-6 7-5 7-6(4) - congrats the Ben
In the girls, Amy Leather beat Brooke Black in three sets
