British Tour 2022

Congrats to Louis Bowden, and Sally Pethybridge, who took the titles here

As above, I had money on Sally P and thought she was a good shout - I saw her last year in juniors on grass and she has a great game for grass.

But the score was tight so Mimi will have had some good grass court practice, which is good.

Joseph Newman-Billington and Freya Christie now head the British Tour rankings. This weeks event at West Worthing has Hannah Klugman in the womens field as 2nd seed.

Luca Pow got a win today at Worthing, the tier 2 British Tour event on grass

Louis Bowden is also here

Hannah Klugman is second seed in the women

In general, LOTS of youngsters - all presumably wanting some grass court practice before the big junior events

As expected, see other thread, as Lui Maxted has got a place in the Wildcard quali wildcard play-offs, he's withdrawn from here, giving Henry Bowden (Louis' brother) a walkover

In the men's the main results of interest (to me) are wins this morning for Luca Pow and Louis Bowden.

Nice to see James Story back on British shores playing and winning, too

He was a top-100 junior who's currently at US college, in Memphis, I think

The female draw is obviously serving as a warm-up event for the J1 juniors on grass next week in Nottingham.

Today say wins from juniors such as Dani Piani, Given Roach, Jaqui O, Hannah Klugman and Lois Newberry.

As well as US college players such as Sally Pethybridge (last week's winner) and Dani Hack

In the women, interesting to note that the score in Hannah's match was:

Hannah Klugman def. Lois Newberry 7-6(5) 5-7 6-4

Very, very tight - and another match later today against Sally Pethybridge

In the top half, it's Given R v Jaquelyn O

In the men, we have James Story v Luca Pow
and Louis Bowden v James Beaven

Given the post above, not surprised that Hannah retired in the second set of her match

Given Roach also retired

So Sally plays Jaqui O in the final

In the men, James Beaven also retired - not convinced about all this two matches in a day

In the final, James Story (who beat Luca Pow) plays Louis Bowden

Am asking is this a lot of retirements at this age ?

In the Tier 1 Tour event in Paddington this week there are ranked players such as Josh Paris, Alexis Canter....

Also, VERY happy to see Joel Pierleoni on the list - it was reported, I think, in the US college thread that he'd dropped tennis

Still may be true but maybe he's regretting it - either way, great to see his name down here (and he's come through qualis) - don't quit, Joel !

Also, other good US college prospects here like Finn Murgett as well as youngsters like Lui Maxted

Rather bizarrely, in the women's, there's Joanna Garland, ranked WTA 383 with a wildcard

Also, Holly Hutchinson, some other interesting US college girls (Elisa van Meeteren was always a favourite of mine to watch, and there's Indy Spink too) and also some youngsters.

Paddington, Tier 1

Lovely to see wins for Joel and Finn

Also Lui, so seagull will be pleased

Quite a few youngsters in the women's draw - with Jaquelyn O having turned up, after losing in the dubs yesterday in the WImbly juniors

I don't know if something was up with Jo Garland and it was a bit of a fluke ....

BUT Isabella Wong, age 15, today defeated Jo Garland, WAT 383 !!!

An amazing win for Isabella - huge congrats to her (I seem to remember paulisi mentioning her....)

(will be interesting to see how she does tomorrow, against Jizel MSF)

Erin Pearce came through easily - she's been noted in the junior thread as sort of 'coming out of nowhere' and suddenly doing very well - and will play Jaqui O

Morgan Cross and Holly H both had to retire

Indy Spink won easily to at least one of our US college players is OK.....

In the boys, the college lads were on good form

Finn Murgett beat Alexis Canter easily

James Story def. Josh Paris

So that's the top two seeds gone

Two walkovers mean Tom Hands and Lui are through without playing

Joel lost in three sets to Felix Mischker though ....
