Seeding for the NCAA individuals and doubles are based on a players ITA (College) ranking. The system is a bit arcane, but essentially students gain ranking points by beating other ranked players (the higher their opponent is ranked the more points their earn for beating them) and avoiding losing matches (particularly against unranked or lowly ranked players).
the system means that if a student plays below 1 or 2 in the line-up or plays in a weaker conference they can find it hard to actually get matches against ranked players. It is particularly hard for a student if they get a match against a higher ranked player and are on the brink of winning only to find the match is stopped as their team has won or lost a duel match against another college. Its not perfect but you tend to see the best players make it through to the top 30 by the end of the season.
The men's semifinals will be held on Saturday and the men's final will be held on Sunday. Match times for the semifinals and final will be communicated tomorrow.
There is no change to the womens competition schedule.

So its a local derby Womens final. North Carolina v NC State after wins over Georgia and Stanford respectively.
Interesting battle of the Brits today with Angelica Blake and Amelia Rajecki locked at one set apiece at position 3 when NC State clinched. Was a very up and down match with Angelica up in both sets only for Amelia to fight back. Angelica did well to recover from 2-5 in the tie break and Amelia closed out the second. So Blake v Rajecki 7-6, 4-6 unfinished. Good match up.
After tomorrows final the individual events start with Blake, Rajecki and Kylie Bilchev in singles and Blake, Rajecki and Miller playing doubles.
The Horned Frogs dropped the doubles point to No. 7 Michigan in an NCAA quarterfinal match but rallied to sweep courts two through five in singles to punctuate a 4-1 win and punch a ticket to the Final Four.

This is the event Paul Jubb won a few years back, yes?

Indeed! Ben Shelton won the mens last season, look where he is now!
No. 3 Ohio State won a close doubles point and then rolled to three straight-set singles wins to blow past No. 2 TCU (Fearnley, Maxted, Pinnington) 4-0 in the semifinals of the NCAA Championship. The Buckeyes will face Virginia in Sundays championship match at noon.
Links to final scores. So no Texas vs as TCU final as both teams lost today..

So,I think I have this correct, Amelia Rajecki is part of the NC State team and also she played doubles with Nell Miller, she is a Brit I think as well?
The Liberty Flames become the first-ever winners of the Universal Tennis NIT Championship after the squad handled No. 69 Vanderbilt to a 4-1 tune, Saturday at the Peachtree City Tennis Center. The Flames defeated UC San Diego, No. 60 Denver and No. 69 Vanderbilt in a span of three days to claim the title.
Josh Wilsons #1 singles and doubles went unfinished. Deji Thomas-Smith lost at #3 singles but won at #2 doubles. They beat Denver (Charlie M, Rafaelo P) in the semis.
Liberty mens tennis players also working hard off the court: Josh Wilson and Deji Thomas-Smith have been named to the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Mens Tennis Team® for their efforts in the classroom
Two schools of thought around the NIT. Quotes lifted from the college tennis chat
1. Big split between the strength of the teams The NIT tourney on the men's side at least is a bit of a joke. Supposedly UTR would select teams based on UTR that were not selected for NCAAs. The selected team with highest UTR is Vandy (ITA 69) with team top 6 UTR of 75.59. There were 8 teams with a higher UTR rank than Vandy that didnt play NCAAs- teams like UCF (76.87) and Miami (76.57). Probably players already had plans to fly home or werent interested in playing NIT. Two other teams have UTRs in the 74.5ish range-Liberty (ITA 77) and Denver (ITA 60). UC Davis was a team UTR of 73.20 has an ITA ranking of 84. It goes downhill from there. An NAIA team with a team UTR of 62-that is an average UTR 10, Citadel with a 6-20 record and team UTR of 63.84, Army ITA #175 with team UTR of 67.97, UC San Diego with ITA #166 and team UTR of 69.65. For the bottom 4 teams, the average player for every line is 1 UTR or more below the Vandy players. For Citadel and Reindhardt, it is is closer to 2 UTR-matches that wont even count for UTR. Too bad they didntask a team like Georgia Southern which had a good year-usually GA Southern is lower ranked than the other GA public MMs like GA State and Kennesaw state, but GA Southern was ITA #88 this year-in line with UC Davis. Reinhardt is a GA NAIA team but no team with a UTR under 70 should be playing in a men's NIT tourney.
Alternative would be to wait until the NCAA field has narrowed down to 16 teams and give a second chance at glory to the best teams out of the 48 who were eliminated. Duke, Miami, Princeton, South Carolina et al. on the women's side are more interesting than CalPoly, Appalachian State and Stetson. Ditto for men's choices.
2. Great idea from Universal Tennis. As a college coach, it was disappointing that the ITA sent an email out in early May saying that they would not accept the results from this event. This caused many teams to not participate. All in all, best of luck to the teams involved.
