Poor Serena, can't catch a break at the moment. I really hope for her, her fans, and for tennis - that we get to see her perform to the best of her ability at one of the slams next year - even if it's just the one more time. Same for Rog...

Yeah, because she withdrew after qualifying started it's a lucky loser and not a shift up the entry list. Whoever was first out of qualies will be spitting a few feathers!!

I can't say I'm a big fan of Serena but still feel sorry she's had to withdraw. Can't help feeling this might have been her last chance to get the record.

A post on tennisforum says that (q6) Greet Minnen was #1 alt. And she does look to be the highest ranked at the relevant rankings date, 26/07, of these in qualifying. She was WR 109. Konjuh was WR 115 with a big leap coming when she later reached the SF at the San Jose 500.
