Week 34 US Open Qualifying

Sorry CD, but as I was reading your post I waa thinking along the lines emmsie has then set out so well.

Who knows the full mind/ body connection here but in extremis people can keep going through real discomfort/absolute pain but when the real focus has passed it can just all let go. She could be saying to herself that she must get to the net in a decent state, see that part out, but the mind knows "you're kidding me there, I'm out of here!" You say to yourself don't pee on the landing, just a final few steps to the loo, but you survived to get off the public street - been there!

It is a real pity for the other player, maybe indeed annoying, but the mind didn't rate gettig to the net on the same level, the conclusion of the last point looks like where it finally went. Blame the human mind if you want ( and that's quite a thing to take on ) but give Harriet a break.

Hope your landing doesn't have carpet

And you all have a good point.

AND I'm a mega Harriet fan. Always have been.

But still not quite convinced.....

She has to save something for the press conference, after all...

I think you're being a bit harsh re Harriet - she was obviously cramping and in agony and likely trying desperately to continue and close out the match - which she did in style. I was more surprised that she was actually able to get to the net at all..

Everybody seems to agree with you.

But I will not budged smile

If she could make the last point, she could make 10 seconds more. And agree those 10 seconds were more mental, than physical. But, run through the line, not up to the line.

However - AS SAID - it's not a hanging offence - biggrin

She's a real example to all young players how to maximise your potential and I've rooted for her since she was 16. BUT (like your own kids) that doesn't make her perfect.

Anyway, tomorrow is D day - and to my HUGE annoyance - I've just seen that I'm out tomorrow evening furious Can't believe there are 6 (SIX!!!) Brits playing tomorrow and I'll barely see one ball no

Probably karma for criticising Harriet biggrin

Harriet has got a headline in the Mail on   Sunday "Dart's on target to set Slam record" .  This is to celebrate 5 women in an overseas grand Slam First Round In 29 Years.

Surely you can watch later without knowing the results ( fast forward bits ) on catch up, with amazon or something ?
As regards Hatty it seems I can postpone the gallows then !

Oooh, not sure I'm that strong-willed.

I'd have to wait till Tuesday .....

I think I'll just check the scores on my phone - and hope some win so they make the next round and I can watch that !

And, yes, definitely put that gallows mail order on hold smile

Haha I was about to use the pee analogy, you get to the toilet fine but then it becomes an absolute frantic battle to actually get your clothes down to pee. we've all been there.

This is off on a tangent but in France all women have compulsory pelvic floor physio sessions after birth, for about 10 weeks. (Well not compulsory, but free and part of standard post birth follow-up treatment). And not just 'squeeze hard' for 5 secs sort of stuff, but full half hour sessions with computer screen giving readings and all that. Given the relevant prevalence, I think it's a disgrace they're not part of the standard NHS programme for women in the UK.

You think the NHS is bad try the US, I had mine and was fortunate to get a 6 week post birth check let alone anything else.

Do without clothes, that the best way. Think of all the time you would save, dressing and undressing, washing clothes etc. biggrin

I've just watched the replay of Harriets match and she did shake hands at the net about 20 seconds after they finished then sat down and cried.

ETA see someone else said the same. She didn't actually collapse, she put her arms up after the win, had a smile and then got hit by a cramp, she then bent double for a few seconds then hobbled to the net.  Can't see an issue with that, cramp is not only debilitating but strikes out of nowhere, not really sure what else she could do.
