Week 34 US Open Qualifying

GAMEOVER wrote:

With Emma qualifying it then becomes pot luck who she draws. There are some tough opponents and much easier ones. In the tougher category are Brady, Teichmann, Swiatek(from junior days) ,Samsonova, Svitolina,Vondrousova(no problems at Wimbledon),Garcia and  Krejcikova. Easiest are debutante Krueger,Davis,Kalinina,  and Parks. The rest are middling but Leylah Fernandez would be an interesting match.

Let's go for the tougher ones then !

Emma gets (13) Brady, Harriet gets Garcia, and Katie gets Samsonova.

Brady though has hardly played in the last few months due to injury and retired in Cinci vs Ostapenko. Though some decent wins when she has lasted matches.

You little beauty Harriet. Slightly annoying about the draw but it fell in our favour in the qualies so can't really complain too much. Maybe 1 through to 2nd round. Getting through qualification is such a massive achievement, it must feel cose to winning titles.

Amazing Harriet. Really didn't expect it. Difficult placements but all are good opportunities.

 Absolutely.

Wonderful win for Harriet

As Paul said, she should have won the first set. And not doing so, and winning in three, puts extra stress on the body. As per Katie B too.

BUT she's got a couple of days now to sort it out. Cramp is awful but isn't an injury as such. I'm sure she'll be on the starting line for the main draw match.

Main draws could have been nicer but, as you say emmsie, can't complain. given the quali draw.

So nice to have a little cohort of players like this. Emma maybe is not really part of it, being so much younger (and better?). Indeed, Fran is only 20 too. But it's still a youngish group - Harriet, Katie B, Jodie - that seem very watchable. Shame Katie Swan is absent - she should be part of it. Fingers crossed for her injuries.

Atleast 2 of this group should be heading upwards to DA by the French (I live in hope that Harriet will too, given she has made it through qualifying 4 times now) hopefully Jodie and Katie Swan can pick up the qualifying baton, both have the capability to make it through qualifying.  I hope Harriets 4 successes and of course Katie Swans Wimbledon qualifying give them the confidence to push for it because is must feel absolutely amazing to get into MD via qualifying. It can be such a lottery with players like Konjuh skulking down there.

Tough draws apart from Heather's.

I don't think that Emma has faced anyone so highly rated? So I'll be interested to see how her game matches up.

I'll be interested to see the odds too.

Well done to all our girls - great combined effort!!

And a decent chance for Hev to break her US Open duck....though she's had decent chances before.....

Great result to wake up to - I didn't think Harriet was going to win that one. Anything can happen in the main draw - they all have a chance if they play well.

And for Jo to defeat Kiki. Her  0-5 record is her worst playing record of any opponent she has played in her whole career. Of course only 1 of  the matches was on the main tour. The others are either ITF or qualifying.

11 / 10 Emma,  8 / 11 Jen ( bet 365 ). So closer betting than I was expecting, but  Uk interest  with Emma probably dictates that.

Related to above, Emma 66 / 1 in the outright, Tauson is 200 / 1, ha.
