Unlucky for JoKo, players are walking on a tightrope, even limiting in-person contact within her team, as I imagine has been the case, hasn't kept the virus away. Hopefully, her team member recovers well, and Jo and the rest of her team stay Covid-free. We're still a long way from the end of this pandemic, and the WTA / ATP are still trying to implement the same old global model of competition and ranking, when it should have made sweeping changes, to a more regional structure, and to a two tier system based on age, so that younger players aren't regularly pushed to their physical limit against seasoned pro's. The 'Battle of the Brits' was a really good initiative, but it was just a gap filler, and the format could have been so much better.
Can only wish her and that team member all the best. Very tough but fair though ...
I take it the government is still planning on allowing UEFA high head yins to attend the Euros Final without what should be the appropriate quarantine in the UK based on some of the countries they are from. So wrong!
Wimbledon @Wimbledon Johanna Konta has been withdrawn from The Championships - in line with government legislation she is required to self-isolate for 10 days having been classified as a close contact of a positive test for COVID-19.
Yafan Wang will take her position in the draw as a lucky loser.
The news for Jo is such bad luck. She had seemed to have regained a bit of confidence too at Nottingham and I thought her section was quite open in all honesty.
Obviously the main thing is that her team recover quickly etc but presumably she will lose those 450 or so points without having a chance to defend them which will see her struggle to be seeded for the US open later in the year? I wonder if we might, sadly, have seen the last of Jo at Wimbledon or will she give it one more go next year?
What absolutel rotten luck for Jo. When they are so strict, and rightfully so in my opinion with maintenance of the players bubble why oh why are they letting full capacity crowds in for finals weekend? Should the roof have to he closed i have visions of it being a super spreader event, endangering players and their teams also.

I think the answer to your very valid question lies in two things.
1 Money
2 The event is part of the Government's series of test events to examine how we can try to get back to some kind of normality. With relatively high levels of vaccination and few if any overseas visitors we simply have to try to find out what we can do or we're going to be stuck in our houses for a long long time. The only thing I question is why everyone doesn't have to undergo a negative test 48 hours pre visit rather than just the un-vaccinated as even those vaccinated can carry the virus? I was fortunate to be at the FA Cup final, also a test event, where this was a requirement and there were virtually no infections among the 20 thousand plus attendees recorded after the event.

Very good luck to all the other GB ladies.
Yes I agree with whether we've seen the last of Jo at Wimbledon etc. The ongoing problem with her knee makes one wonder how much longer her career can continue even without Covid being thrown in as well.
