Week 26 - Wimbledon - London (grass) - women's main draw

Im not sure what it means for when the Brits will play but having Barty open Tuesday ensures top seeds play on separate days for
Men and women.

Most of the British men are Monday schedule, I hope the womens draw doesnt overload all our Brits into Monday, Wednesday and leave Tuesday relatively bare?

I went on the Tuesday in 2019 and all but 1 Brit was playing that day. It was fab.

This year Monday is defo looking the better day

5 British women will be due to play on Monday, Wednesday etc and 4 on Tuesday, Thursday etc, split as per in Andy's post.

As you say, our men are more unevenly split wirh 5 due on Monday etc and just Cam due on Tuesday etc.

So in all 10 on Monday etc, 5 on Tuesday etc.

Interesting re the examples of the previous year's RU having previously opened Centre Court proceedings on the Tuesday in the absence of the reigning champion. Though in the last relevant year, 2017, Angie Kerber was both the 2016 RU and the WR 1.

In most cases when the holder could not defend  the title  the runner up from the year before was often close to being world No. 1. eg. Sanchez, Evert, Goolagon and Kerber as above. Sabine Lisicki was an exception as she was never a top tenner. . Ash is  world number one but her Wimbledon record is not that good.I wonder what Serena thinks?

It does seem a rather strange and unnecessary change from the previous norm of the last RU unless they have in the meantime brought in a specific rule that it should be the WR 1 in the absence of the title holder, which would be fair enough.

Or possibly they asked Serena and she declined , keep out of spotlight a little ?

I can so not see that.

It was just a typo, no big deal, GAMEOVER/ROSAMUND knows her stuff so I'm 100% sure it wasn't through ignorance.

Terrible scheduling.
Swan (Court 3), Burrage(5) and Boulter (17) all play at 11am on Monday. Heather is second match and Dart fourth and last match, both on court 18

It happens (often with you realising words have changed). I don't think you have anything to apologise for.

Do you have any thoughts on why they might have changed who opens if the defending champion isn't there?

No idea. I just assumed Serena would be doing it. Ash may be world no.1 but her Wimbledon record isn't that good. Sabine Lisicki even though she was never a top tenner did contribute much to the singles at Wimbledon in the period 2011 to 2013. She wasn't replaced by the World No1 in 2014 with Bartoli retired.

Sensible putting Jodie on first. No time to hang about and get nervous and can have a normal routine without being stuck waiting for a best of 5 and not being sure when to warm-up/eat etc... Although the weather may wreck that.

Shame Katie and Katie are on at same time too, but with the number playing clashes were inevitable.

Sad not to see Brits on 12. I think it's a better court than 18 and creates more of an atmosphere.
