RE: Week 24 - WTA 250 - Viking Classic, Birmingham (Grass)

WTA is showing Harriet having been moved to Ann Jones Court and Mertens v Tomljanovic has been removed from today's OOP. This means it should be on BBC coverage.

Harriet is also on the BBC now, either through i-player or the sport bit of the website.

Great!!  I don't think they indicated that until last minute.    Harriet playing really well.

Looks like either Mertens or Alja was a "close contact" from a flight into the UK.

Em and Beth are *2-5 down. Actually playing much better than last week, but Beth throwing in a couple too many routine errors at bad times (like at 30all, a bad one to get broken on deuce).

Ooooft Dart served for the set and was 30-0 up and her serve just fell apart. Back to 5-5

Then she's almost given the set away. 5-7

Harriet really needs to work on that serve. She needs to find a lot more speed - first serve is in the low 90's whilst Garcia's is more like 110+. And as for the second serve ...........

I don't understand how she lost that set... She was playing so well too.

Em and Beth go out 6-3 6-2. They were playing a really nice match, good teamwork and very much still in the contest, then it all fell apart in the last 4 games. Opponents gave them nothing, making the occasional loose shot from the back all the more costly. A little disappointing as I thought they had half a chance today.

Tara and Eden on next.

Tennis must be the only Sport where you get repeated Wild Cards over the years for being way out your depth.

That ship has sailed, best she can do now is try to compensate for lack of pace with some exceptional placing,, on the plus she has just taken the 2nd set 6-4

I agree, her placement is exceptional, but an extra 10% would mske a big difference

Harriet falling apart. Couldn't keep the level going.

Great win for Tara and Eden, recovering from an absolute pounding in the first set to win 0-6 6-1 10-6

Harriet battled back from *1-5 down in the third to *4-5 saving match points on the way, only to be broken to love. Ouch, that one will sting.

7-5 4-6 6-4

She's good enough to win at this level, it's so nearly there.

Harriet pulled it back to *4-5 in the 3rd, but couldn't hold serve, sadly.
