Harriet falling apart. Couldn't keep the level going.

Great win for Tara and Eden, recovering from an absolute pounding in the first set to win 0-6 6-1 10-6

Super win in the doubles - the pair are playing well together smile

Such a shame Harriet couldn't quite close out that first set.

She did well after that, but that was her chance to get a grip on the match

A very, very good win for Heather 6-2 in the third. Really stepped up and kept being aggressive. Some lovely big serves too. Hopefully a win like this helps things click into place. Great to see.

Well done Heather, as Paul said a good win and an interesting potential second round against Zhang. Hopefully as Paul says, this win will give her confidence and help everything to click into place - Heather battled hard and showed great spirit.

It's all about the serve with Heather. If she serves well, she has a winning weapon. If she doesn't she is a sitting duck. Hard to maintain it for a whole match but today she did.

Martincova d. Stosur, 63 64.

Im having trouble fully grasping why Birmingham gave Stosur a wild card.

Stosur got a wild card as she is a former grand slam winner and a big name. I would have wanted to see her play if I was able to attend

Sam is entitled to a wildcard on request under WTA Rules. LTA could not say no.

When i saw Heather had lost the first set, I have to say I expected it to be another early tournament exit, so was pleasantly surprised when i read she had won. smile
