Transfers

After 3 seasons at Texas Tech, Nell Miller (UTR 10.24) is transferring and has signed with
@PackWTennis
for the spring of 2022. The Brit played primarily at the #2/3 singles and doubles spots, amassing records of 45-38 in singles & 48-37 in doubles. ITA doubles high rank of #35.

Brit men get a mention in this article: COVID-19 causes transfer portal chaos

Hamish Stewart (Tulane Georgia): Georgia needed to find a replacement for Tyler Zink if they wanted to be a threat in the loaded SEC. Theyve found that in Tulanes former #1 player, Hamish Stewart. Stewart was ranked as high as #21 this year and should slot in nicely for UGA at #2. Stewart will also be joined by another notable transfer, Tristan McCormick, from Notre Dame. McCormick reached a career-high top 100 singles ranking and #9 in doubles.

Emile Hudd (Oklahoma State Tennessee): Tennessee was one big surprise of the 2021 season, ultimately becoming a serious national title contender before falling to Baylor in the NCAA SFs. While they lose their #4 and #5 players from that squad, they bring in Hudd from Oklahoma State who reliably played #2 singles for the Cowboys and reached career-high ITA rankings of #87 in singles and #19 in doubles. I expect Hudd to slot in at #3 or #4, thus keeping Tennessee near the top of the 2022 contenders list.

Is College tennis a good route to the pro tour ? Twenty current and former collegiate athletes will compete in the main draw of the 2021 US Open singles tournament. This week, 14 different universities will be represented in singles play at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

On the mens side, Georgias John Isner (ATP No. 22(S)) TCUs Cameron Norrie (ATP No. 29 (S)) hold the highest singles rankings out of the former collegiate players. At the 2020 US Open, Norrie reached the third round before falling to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Norrie had the deepest run in the 2020 singles draw of the mens collegiate players. Unfortunately 2021, Norrie was beaten in straight sets by US Open debutant Alcaraz, at 18 the youngest man in the worlds top 100. Norrie had no answer to the youngsters powerful hitting as he went down 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.

Didn't John Isner go to US college? He's higher ranked than Cam.

Missed the c+p of the sentence at the start of the second parapet. Should read
"On the mens side, Georgias John Isner (ATP No. 22(S)) and TCUs Cameron Norrie (ATP No. 29 (S))...."

Millen swapped to Uni Kentucky Junior year and looks like hes signed up to stay a 5th year 21-22. Played #3 singles last year.

So many transfers in college tennis and players staying or transferring for a 5th year  its hard to keep up.  Kentucky is in the SEC , so probably tougher matches  than at GW which was Big South. Nice to see our college players doing well in ITF,s  smile

Thanks, EP.

As you know, my grasp on college tennis is pretty much non-existent so I rely on you ! (And others)

Glad it's working out for Millen. He certainly has had a good run this week.

Back in the real world, after the fairytale ending for Brit Emma, 2021 US Open singles ladies singles champion, Uni of Memphis have a double reason to celebrate:

Fantastic wins for 2014 University of Memphis graduate Joe Salisbury, the new US Open mens and mixed doubles champion. The US Open Mixed Doubles final will be one of many firsts, for tthe first time since 1981, the finalists for the US Open Mixed Doubles event will all be former college student-athletes. While college tennis has been well represented in the event in the past, there have been 38 championship matches since the last final where all four finalists had college ties.

..and Brit Jack Findel-Hawkins takes up a new role on the coaching team. Findel-Hawkins brings a wealth of playing experience to the Tigers. As a student-athlete at North Florida from 2013-17, his list of accomplishments included All-American honors and two conference player of the year awards, along with being selected for NCAA individuals all four years and ranking in the top-30 in the nation in singles and as high as No. 2 nationally in doubles.

A fair number of Brits get a mention smile. #6 Johannus Munday is the top Brit in the singles and #4 Connor Thompson +1 and from Joe Salisburys alma Mater,  Uni Memphis, Brit pair #5 David Stevenson and Oscar Cutting.
