I think I read she is guaraanteed $100k Australian from this, that is a decent haul and will set her up nicely as a starter for 10.
Someone commented how they hope that she avoids the other Brits - I agree BUT it would be fascinating to see her play Jo, Heather or Katie B, it really would. She is slightly different to many of the women players, she plays a decent top spin game and is much more solid than others, and seems less frail mentally. I reckon she would have a decent shot at any of those 3 and , I reckon, possibly beat Katie B on current form and maybe even Heather
When did 2 British women last meet in the singles of the Australian Open ? Must be a long time ago. Will check to see when.
Last meeting between 2 British women in AO was 1st round 1988 when Jo Durie beat Julie Salmon.
Mike Dickson in the Daily Mail is still having Fran coming from 2 places. She is described as the 20 year old from Bradford. Later she is the Keighley born player. Her parents also seem to have left Yorkshire. He also writes her parents originally from Yorkshire but now based in Surrey.

Born in Keighley, grew up in Bradford?
No idea - it's all 'up north' to me (runs for cover.......)

theyre basically next door to each other - folks will have heard of Bradford on the Mails readership, Keighley less so ...its all in the same vicinity though
Wish I had put Fran higher in my forecast by at least 50. Brilliant show Fran. Youre an inspiration to many on what they can achieve with the same determination that you obviously have. Good luck now and the future.
Reading the tennis forum it seems Madison Keys has tested positive and won't be going to Australia. I think Bonaventure replaced Linette not Yastremska. I think they'll need to take more than 6 lucky losers to Australia. Back in 1968 when they had the riots in Paris and it was a 96 draw, they had no lucky losers but had about 30 matches that involved walkovers. Linette withdrew because of a knee injury.

Schmiedlova is in for Keys. Gasparyan next in we think for Animisova who seems to be out too. Ankita Raina was drawn 7th in the lucky loser lottery, she might get in!
