Weeks 39 & 40 - French Open, Roland-Garros, Paris (clay)

Big credit to David Goffin - and serious concerns about the umpire....

Goffin's ball is sliced, quite slow, takes the outside of the line, Sinner is on the ball, it's called out, Sinner hits the ball back over into Goffin's half.....

Goffin queries the call, umpire looks, overrules, calls it in, and awards the point to Goffin.

Sinner looks completely befuddled - the umpire sticks firm - and Goffin tells the umpire the guy got it back over, it has to be replayed - credit to him.

Especially as then gets broken...

Young Korda wins the accolade of first set won at the Grand Slam - against Seppi.

Hope Evo has eaten - he may be up earlier than expected as Sakkari is already 5-0 up in her match.

Dan has started and breaks Nishikori in the first game to 30. Neither of them seemed to be hitting the ball particularly well at the moment and the conditions are pretty miserable.

As I write this Dan has held to 15 so its now 2-0*

Sinner makes mincemeat of Goffin (11), beating him by 5, 0 & 3 in just under two hours!

Dan now two breaks up at 4-1*

He seems to have stepped up - Nishikori is not playing well

Dan waltzes through the first set, capturing it by 6-1.  biggrin  that he can maintain the momentum.  It looks absolutely perishing on that court!

Just got a code violation - bit of bad language there - as the second set goes pear-shaped

Dans serve looked to go off somewhat, hopefully a rainbreak will help him refocus.

Had to do some other things so went away. When I can back he had lost the second set and was a break down in the third. Has fought back though and into a tie break.
Jed led 2-0 but now *2-3

And the third set breaker goes 3-7.
Long way back now.

He did well to get back from 2-5 don to *6-5 up, couldn't serve it out, went up in the TB, and then lost it.

But I'm still hoping for a long match and my theory that Evo will hang in better than Kei.

Dan gets pushed too far behind his baseline - someone tell him to be careful he doesn't end up in the back fence.

But lots of hope for a five-setter....
