Boys & Girls: French Open Juniors, clay (Week 40)

Elsa J (who defeated Matilda) blasted Eala off the court, winning 6-3 6-2

Making the RG Girls' Final to be Elsa against Charaeva who won 7-5 in the third, in her semi

Not only Matilda's conqueror, but also the two Swiss lads (and the Brazilian doubles combo) made the finals

The all Swiss boys match is on at 10am UK tomorrow, and Jacquemot-Charaeva follows on.

Quite looking forward to the girls final. I saw pretty much all the Charaeva-Kudermetova match earlier, and I thought Charaeva did look the better player throughout, but let a 5-3 lead slip in the first set, and thought she was going to do similar in the decider having led 5-2, but she eventually saw it out, Kud did have a few stops for medical treatment. I'm not sure the finalists have met before, and no odds as usual.

Well, I'm sticking by initial impressions - and going for Stricker to take the boys' title.

I haven't seen Charaeva which makes any prediction utterly irrelevant really but, for what it's worth, I'll put my bet on Elsa.

Well, got the first one right

Stricker takes it 2 & 4, and so Arthur Féry gets bragging rights that at least he lost to the eventual champion.

Stricker looks a real talent, and based on this ITF article, the Swiss seem to have a number of junior boys performing at the top.

Just in time to replace Fed and Stan!

Two out of two

The first two sets were very tight, but the third was one-way traffic, and Elsa is the French Open girls' champion - to the delight (and relief) of the French

And well done to Matilda for, like Arthur, only losing to the eventual winner.

So, Elsa - the champion here in Oct 2020 at RG juniors - got a main draw wildcard for the May 2021 RG adults.

She lost 4-6 1-6, against Rybakina, seeded 21.

Which is a decent effort.
