Well, well, another bagel - Azarenka in 23 minutes over Kenin !

 Double bageled in fact.

Yes, a very impressive performance. And in the same quarter as Jo.

Good result for Jo although didnt manage to see any of it.
Tough match in the last 16 though - Mugaruza has been playing well.

And yes wow re Azarenka. Whichever way you look at it, that must have been some performance.

Nightmare draw for Jo. Cocchainetto (sorry sure spelling is wrong) has done very well recently, I think jo could struggle there and then Muguruza or Gauff.

Dont see Jo getting past a round here.

Pleased you got that wrong . Although you are correct about Muguruza as a potential opponent.

I get most of my predictions wrong, which I am not ashamed to admit!!!!

Muguruza 9th seed v. Jo 7th seed is the only predicted match taking place in the last 16 in Rome. There are 3 qualifiers and Azarenka as an SE.

In all the years she's played in the main draw in Rome Jo has always managed at least 1 win. i.e  it has been the kindest clay court tournament for Jo. Interesting she had her fitness trainer with her as opposed to her coach or hitting partner.

When Sam Smith was commentating on Jo's match against Begu she questioned whether Jo really needed a coach(neither T.Hogstedt nor Dan Smethurst was in Rome) She thought Jo was better working things out for herself rather than continually looking up at her coach as happened in the 3rd set against Cirstea in New York.

Well the tennisabstract gives Muguruza to win by a considerable margin. If Garbine does win Rome she will have done it the hard way. She would have beaten or have to beat most likely  Stephens, Gauff, Jo, Azarenka, Halep and Ka. Pliskova.  I think the match against Gauff was turned around simply because Gauff served 3 double faults in the same game.

Well Annie K. has just announced during the Blinkova v. Ka. Pliskova  match that Jo is no longer working with Th. Hogstedt. Well that proved to be a short partnership. Probably justifies Laura Robson's comments.

The bookies, who generally take everthing into consideration better than the purely stats based tennisabstract, have Garbine favourite vs Jo but not hugely. bet365 have it 8/11 vs 11/10.

Having said that, TA rate it 71-29 - not sure how that stacks up v bookies odds, it looks like bookies see it slightly closer than TA do?

TA see a Halep win overall, although as top seed that is hardly a wild prediction!

Certainly the TA % is much heavier to Garbine. The bet365 odds are 58% to 48%, so taking out the bookies margin and adding to 100, 55-45.

High quality match not reflected by the score
