I also hope win he has calmed down that he apologises because it is very much NOT a good look from the world no.1 in the sport. On top of the Adria tour and whatever nonsense is going on with the player union.
He loses the points, and loses his prize money, and may get other fines (although probably not)

So the USTA statement said but he hadn't added any ranking points over and above his L16 180 points of last year on the current 'greater of' basis. So unless they take away last year's US Open 180 points ( which would be a bit odd ) he has no points to lose.
Edit: ah, as FW just said.

Stu Fraser tweeted that it was "woeful" that Djoko didn't front up before leaving the grounds, mentioning his position in the game and comparing him adversely against young Shapovalov after the Davis Cup incident.
I actually think that the radio 5 commentators again had it right in saying that he at least needed to speak in the next day or two. But if he was still very emotional it might be for the best to miss out on a post match PC which might go awry.
Completely agree about the apology - he MUST apologise, openly, and honestly (i.e. without snide, 'if I happen to have wronged anyone, then I am sorry' approach)
But, yes, maybe too raw to do it straight away so within the next day or two is fine.
I'm rather afraid it'll feed into the Djoko 'the world is out to get me' chip on his shoulder.
And thanks for explaining the points in practice. As you say, it's a funny year so it's not the same as normal.
I was referring more to the USTA announcement, though, which said:
"In accordance with the Grand Slam rulebook, following his actions of intentionally hitting a ball dangerously or recklessly within the court or hitting a ball with negligent disregard of the consequences, the US Open tournament referee defaulted Novak Djokovic from the 2020 US Open. Because he was defaulted, Djokovic will lose all ranking points earned at the US Open and will be fined the prize money won at the tournament in addition to any or all fines levied with respect to the offending incident."
i.e. that he loses all points (if he's earned any) - I like the fact that it is SO public and clear - he's defaulted, for this reason, and here is the whole list of consequences.
I read somewhere that if this happened one round later hed have totally lost all points as hed have exceeded last year so this years would have been the counter, and then he would have lost them due to the Dq.
Not sure of that in terms of correct application but guess it doesn't matter as a mute point.
He had plenty of time to get his PR onto it, not been a fan since he retired in his Wimbledon semi final (which I was at)
Yes, I agree.
Bet it's not him but, as you say, his PR team.
In fact, I'm sure his PR team were going ballistic, as Novak walked off the court, 'don't let him go to that presser!', 'Get Nole!', 'Damage limitation, no talking to anyone till we get the right spin out'....
However, if you're going to pay a PR team, least it's good when then do a good job....
In Djoko's defence, it was a fairly innocuous tap of the ball, there was absolutely no anger or even irritation when he tapped the ball behind him. Very different to Tim's incident and massively different to Dennis's. However, even a low speed tennis ball in the face is going to hurt and shock. The incident is shown well at 1hr, 1minute and 40 seconds into the Amazon Prime stream.
People can make their own opinions. People are responsible for their actions even when outcomes are not intended. I fell sorry for everybody, including the spectators who were robbed of what could have a great match.
