as an aside, as well as Ward coming into doubles for Jack D (and Ryan in singles for Jack also), Ryan Peniston seems to have replaced Jay clarke in the doubles with Dom. Has Jay withdrawn after his singles, from doubles or from doubles and singles?

With Ryan P playing in Dan and Cams group, Ryan could play another wild card/alt on day 3 if Jay indeed is pulling out/struggling.

I didnt see much of Jay v Dan but I thought Jay looked quite heavy, although I havent seen him recently so that may be his fighting weight?

I thought Jay was running out of steam in what I saw of the second set -had to take a work call, and it was all over when I returned.

It does indeed look like the Big 4 are going to be comfortably ahead; which isnt necessarily a bad thing, I want them to do well in the rest of the season and losing or struggling to the lower ranked guys would be disappointing; although I like to see close matches, it would be good to see the close ones between those top 4 as real match ups to get excited about. For now, Kyle, Dan, Andy all started well enough and should be happy. Dan gets the break tomorrow, Andy and Kyle go and I wonder if that immediate next match will favour Kyle on that basis.

Naive question- why did they choose to play the tournament indoors? LTA advice is to play outside and data has shown less likely to transmit virus outside.

I believe I read that the decision to play indoors was something to do with the requirements for televising the event.  Once again the needs of tv take precedence over the well being of the players who would clearly be safer playing outdoors.  I believe the British Tour events will be played outdoors on hard courts.

Not a naive question. An important one.

According to the snippet of Prime commentary I heard, Jay has withdrawn from the doubles as a precaution (I think the commentator said he had  a sore knee, but I may be wrong), but is still in the singles for now.

But don't forget that, even at this time of the year, there aren't enough hours of light in the day to ensure the completion of a single day's programme in that day if it were played outdoors.  Kyle/Dino vs Dom/Ryan is still on court.

Yes, but that's because they started late. If they'd started at 11, there'd be no problem.

Well, you never trust James to close something out but he's got Liam on a bit of string at the moment...

Thanks, brittak.

I don't get Amazon Prime but I've now gone and looked at Bet365 (which I should have done before I posted, I guess..... sheer laziness....) and - YEH! - it's on Bet365.

So this afternoon has suddenly got perked up (not that it was too terrible anyway - love hot weather).

Thanks again, B.

PS I know he's been out for a while but it's not often that anyone could get odds of 1.5 on Andy to beat Liam (no offence to Liam either, but that seems a bit generous, no?)

Great to see the bookies WELL wrong, as expected/hoped biggrin

Tweet from John Millman this morning :

I think that @jamie_murray has done well here. The @BattleofTheBrit has got great players competing in an environment that is following strict health and safety guidelines in what is a refreshing scoring format.

"Strict health & safety guidelines" as compared with NoDjo's Balkan fiasco, no doubt!  wink
