The under 12 girls have made the final in style It is the third time they have reached the final in the tournament's 9 year history (previously in 2015 with Holly Fischer, Kylie Bilchev and Andrea Pineda plus in 2017 with Hannah Read, Sophya Devas and Vlada Kozak) The final will be against either Poland (who we lost to in qualification) or 4 times winners Russia (3 wins for the Czech Republic and 1 for Ukraine). They currently are playing a deciding doubles.
I had a feeling Czech Republic was going to be the biggest hurdle, so I was cautiously optimistic our girls would finish as champions after defeating them.
Sorry to put it in here but this is the main current thread.
In case anyone who follows the juniors hasn't seen it, we have re opened a process for determining the GB Player of the Month.
Aim is to have nominations based on events starting in a calendar month (eg in Feb from Monday 3rd Feb and through events starting Monday 24th Feb) and then once nominations are completed by month end, a poll to vote for the monthly winner will take place.
At year end, the monthly winners will go into an annual player of the year poll.
For January, it was determined by a few folks that based on winning a slam, Joe Salisbury would get the award (no poll as it was done retrospectively).
For February, I have nominated the GB under 12 Girls Team as winners of the tennis europe cup, alongside a few seniors nominations from others. The vote will take place at end of Feb/early March and each month thereafter and anyone can put forward nominations as the month progresses.
Nice article. Shows how young they are. All three adults in the photo are looking straight at the camera but only one of the girls is - probably by accident.
The under 14s could earn a nomination if they become the first ever British winners in this category (we have been finalists 3 times in 40 years - the last time being in 2010 with Katie Boulter, Eleanor Dean and Grace Dixon - but never winners). And they have started the finals well, beating Ukraine 2-0 today (doubles to play). The Ukrainian players have similar TE rankings, but haven't had as impressive results individually as our trio this year. The semis tomorrow are against Russia - strong, though possibly not as high in the rankings as most years. They do however include the reigning Orange Bowl under 12 champion
