How does two (or three depending on how we count it) players into doubles semis stack up compared to historic GS performances? It feels like this would be a decent haul from a slam but I dont follow juniors so have no comparison?

Depends on your standpoint regarding singles vs doubles.  Historically at the Australian Open we have had a sprinkling of success at boys doubles (Liam Broady & Josh Ward Hibbert being the last winners) while we have had three girls singles finals in the last 11 years (Laura Robson twice and Katie Swan).  Boys singles and girls doubles don't tend to provide much joy (I think James Bailey was our last finalist - winner - back in 1993, assuming you don't count Brydan Klein's success when representing Australia ).  Katie Boulter is our only girls doubles finalist in recent years.

The doubles semis are 4th on courts 5/13

Boys Doubles SF

(6) Lorens/Ozolins (LAT/POL) v (7) Fery/Gill

Girls Doubles SF

 Broadus/Coleman (USA) v Falkner/Mutavdzic (SLO/GBR)

Pretty amazing that three of the four semi-finalists in the boys event are French.
