Well done to Matilda, very good win in a well contested match, lovely smile and a hug from her dad at the end. Her kit bag is only slightly smaller than she is! I get the feeling we will be seeing plenty of her in the future.

As feared Erin found Daria S a tough proposition. Roehampton winners have gone on to win Wimbledon 3 times in the last 5 years, and one of the two who didn't was Coco Gauff last year . Matilda has to play the Roehampton runner-up next (though she was trounced by Daria S)

Too late to 'do a Coco' as Emma is turning 17 in a few months ....... she'll just have to do her own thing at her own pace

Who is actually in charge of junior development because we don't seem to have any Laura's or Heather's in our current juniors. The immediate future looks bleak and instead of the press making a mountain out of Jo Konta's comments perhaps they should look more closer at our junior development. When Anne Keothavong was asked about lack of our juniors at the French championships she basically waffled and gave a none answer. This is a more serious matter than Jo Konta's comments in her press conference.

The LTA has a strategy for player development and as part of that it provides support (financial and non-financial) to a select few juniors and seniors who they think have the greatest potential to be WTA/ATP top 100 within 5 years through what they call a 'Pro-Scholarship program'. The 6 juniors on the program are - Emma R, George L, Jack D, Fran J, Anton and Aidan, the other 6 are older players. From my understanding there are 2 national tennis centres in Loughborough and Stirling from Sep 2019??? and those centres will also start grooming the next round of selected much younger players . Hopefully out of this crop(s) of selected juniors GB will have a Laura or Heather, so fingers crossed!

The cost of the group, as per the LTA's 2018 annual report, is:

Last year the LTA invested around £700,000 in
supporting 13 PSP players, each of whom were
assigned an LTA national coach to support them
and their personal coach build and implement
a robust individual development plan and track
their progression. As well as financial support,
PSP players are supported by the LTAs science
and medicine team in all key disciplines from
medical to nutrition, physio, performance
analysis and psychology.

However, given that next year, only Emma will still be a junior (just), do they have a new group? Any new names? It says it's for 16-24.

I believe the intention is that younger ones will come through the national age group programme and will be catered for at the National tennis centres in Stirling & Loughbrough. Can't see from the LTA website the cost of that training or the level of support but I assume the NAGP is the next layer down in terms of player support . According to the LTA , the ''National Age Group Programme is for the very best U12 to U21 players in the country''.

But to answer your question - not aware of the names of the players on the NAGP or any other programme apart from what is on the web, I'm afraid!
