To go back to a point -ie. Money. Now my tickets (2 days centre court on north standard side) cost more than a hundred quid. It is also unfortunately mid month (so not close to a payday) I am going down on the sleeper (cheap seat, not a cabin) sleeping in a hostel and getting the overnight Megabus back. Grimace. I am only taking the sleeper because I need to sleep but on the way back if I don't sleep I can obviously sleep at home so not much of an issue. I won't be buying very much at Queens but bringing in food from a supermarket with me. I am not rich but this is my "holiday" as it were and so I sacrifice certain things (sleep for one thing) because I choose to.
A few years ago I went to the French Open on a plane - I hate, hate flying and need...medicinal help, shall we say to fly. And I didn't for over a decade. But I did it because I love tennis and it was a personal treat to myself - nobody else was going to buy it for me so I did it myself. And it was hot (too hot for me, I am but a Scotswoman after all) and things went wrong but I saw a load of players and overall I am glad I went.
I went many years without seeing live tennis (and only before that, the WTF at the 02) but now I have it, I want it in my life but I also want to see the players I follow (which include Delpo and Rafa and our GB players and Kvitova and Garbi and...and...and). And where can i see those players if not at the "bigger"and more expensive events?
Enjoy you trip flamingowings. I had quick look at the prices when at Queens yesterday the sandwiches alone were £7! I have to say Im lucky with where I live with the tennis I get on my doorstep each year, Surbiton, Queens and Wimbledon all in easy reach and I guess Eastbourne isnt too far a drive if I fancied it.
How can someone with Flaming-O-Wings not like flying
Sorry but I couldn't resist that one. As others have said, I hope you have a fantastic day, that the sun shines, that you get to see the players you want to see and hopefully with some GB wins thrown into the deal as well.
Because one thing is for sure, you've earned the right to have that fantastic day.
Thank you for that post, FW. You have a great time at Queen's and at future events.
Live tennis - time I was seeing more myself and I had been thinking about Wimbledon qualifying if time and money allowed. It's a long time since I've been to London for any reason.
Just echoing others, FW, hope you have a wonderful time. While I agree that it's expensive at Queen's, I've found it very friendly when I've been. And it's great to see the players just wandering around. And you do see some fantastic players there. And you deserve to enjoy it.

Haha, I chose this name because it's a riff on a West Wing thing (as in the tv show) and isn't my "usual" online name.
A GB win would be an improvement on last year where I saw Cam and Jay lose their matches.
I am also looking forward to hopefully seeing Delpo, Garin (even if I do have to sit through Cilic ) and a few others. I am gutted not to see Andy but hope to see Jamie.
Thanks for all the comments. Will try to give updates if I can.

Not too much happening Edinburgh way...unfortunately. Might try to go to the Glasgow one in the autumn.
I quite fancy doing Surbiton and Eastbourne next year if I can.

Flamingowings - such lovely posts from you and I hope you have a great couple of days. Fingers crossed that the weather is kind and that you get to see all the players that you want to. Enjoy!
It would be super to see some GB wins along the way and be nice to see Andy back later this week as well.
Thanks to other posters as well earlier today - maybe I was feeling a little too sensitive this afternoon!!

Thanks - and you weren't, the poster was trying it on and wanting a rise.
Good luck to FW and all those others going to Queens. It does seem a lovely tournament to attend, if one can strategise to manage the pricing as much as possible as seems to be required. I don't get to see much live tennis either, family and work travel constraints don't help, but would also like to try more. I'd actually like to see some of our younger players play more, maybe because I've a son who used to play a lot.
I hope those going enjoy it, it should be good. I went once many years ago, at the time the draw was larger (56) and as such they used a couple of outside courts, so it felt like a much "bigger" event, it looks like now it is just the one court in use which I think is a shame. Although presumably that changes if it rains and they have delays etc?
Either way some good matches on todays schedule at Ilkley and at Halle as well, where they have a good field as well, and with Ilkley and Birmingham it feels like the week takes the level up a notch.
