RE: Week 25 - ATP 500 - Fever-Tree Championships - The Queen's Club, London, Great Britain (grass)

Argh, I hope not Wednesday! I want to see the match! Heard rumours that Andy will be on Wednesday no

Can't bump down Queens without doing the same to Halle or everyone will just go to Halle instead. Personally I think the draw is more than enough to keep me occupied but that's just me...smile

First set in the bag by 7-6(4).    Typical Karlo match by the look of it...

Dino dumps out the Croatian one-trick pony & qualifies!  biggrin  He wasn't totally outclassed in the ace department either:  8-15.

FQR:  (qWC) James Ward WR 208 defeated (q4) Ivo Karlovic (CRO) WR 86 by 7-6(4) 6-4

So, 20 precious ranking points in the bag.  smile

Not sure what his Wimbledon wildcard prospects were but qualifying here and beating two top 100 opponents would have helped a bit!

Yeh surely he will get a WC. We don't have loads to give out and he fulfils the old criteria

Huge win for James. He sure does love the grass and the big occasions.

Not at all surprised that James won - although very pleased for him, and the organisers, of course (although, that said, the crowd seem to love Karlovic too - there's the 'freak' element of his game that attracts people).

Great to get a Brit into the MD as of right.

And Jack will note that Bublik won in two.....

Great stuff! Q vs De Minaur, Schwartzman, Simon and Tiafoe.

Bedene has also qualified, for those who keep a bit of an eye on him.

Queens Club, for the many not the few.

Halle with Federer and Zverev less than half the price.

Crowd will be busy watching Boris news no doubt.

Argument falls down a bit the later in the week you go.

Also Queens might not have top 5 players but they do have Delpo, Anderson, Tsitsipas, Wawrinka, Cilic who are all top 10/top 20.

The qualifiers have now been placed &...

L32:  Gilles Simon (FRA) WR 37 (CH = 6 in January 2009 - he's 34, two years older than Dino) vs (Q) James Ward WR 208

Could've been worse, I think...

Not really when you factor in the cost of drink and food. Much cheaper at Halle. Queens fans are white middle aged hat and chino suit wearing Tory supporters talking obnoxiously from my visit a few years back. And from that thread Im not alone. Id imagine the Halle experience be a lot more inclusive and enjoyable.

I find it amazing that a sport such has tennis can be viewed so differently in regard to who they target both spectator wise and player wise. Until we address that issue there will never be another homegrown top player.

Halle is surely full of Fedfans who can be as equal or more obnoxious as Tories.
As for the food - yeah I agree but I plan to bring my own food in from a supermarket which seems the smartest thing to do. Expensive food & drink is not just an issue here but can be said for festivals, concerts etc.

Halle is in its own wee place, Queens is in London with London prices.

London prices and London squalor evident though. Dont think youll find that in Halle.
