Week 24 - WTA International Nature Valley Open ($250k) - Nottingham, Great Britain - Grass

Katie S lost 7-6 6-1
Naiktha's match has just started (that's the first time I've typed her name - it's quite unusual - unless I'm just out of touch!)
Tara and Maia up on Livescore.
It's all go!

I think Naikthas family has Indian heritage, as I understand it, originally from Yorkshire before going to Australia and then returning to British nationality. Be good to see her get a win , a day where the ladies are doing well and the men are much quieter

Think this would be the biggest GB women upset in recent memory if Naiktha can pull it off, but here's hoping.

With the 3 wins in Manc, Harriet and one of Maia/Tara, it's been a good day at the higher end level. Just hope Katy isn't out for too long.

Early days, and she may well come back, but like Heather, Tara has been royally shafted with the move in doors. Maia 3-0*.

Has anyone got a Tara-Maia stream? I found one for Naiktha, but it's not easy viewing.

Edit - doesn't appear to be one.

Naiktha has just lost 1-6 2-6, which I think about reflected the level of competitiveness to be fair.

Caroline Garcia FRA d. WC Naiktha Bains GBR 6-1 6-2

Despite leading, Maia has served 7 doubles in 6 service games. I find that hard to forgive really

Tara has served 5 aces though 3-2 up in the second.

With it being indoors with multiple courts and balls flying everywhere, this could quite easily be WC Lumsden vs Q Moore at Glasgow W25. Crazy to think that one of them will leave with 30 points in the bag, especially if it's Maia against a qualifier with that ranking, even more so when you consider you'd normally have to win through 4 rounds of solid opponents to get those 30 points.

Double faults are no different from any other UE. It really depends what the strategy for the match is, what sort of DFs they were, who the opponent is, and the level of the serve in the first place.

Naomi SHOULD serve quite a lot of DFs, it makes perfect sense.

However, I agree, there is less argument for Maia, and given it's against Tara.

I just think one plus df per game, it's really not helpful. But think we agree

We don't have to agree smile

No UEs are helpful. But I think in general a lot of people over emphasise double faults. It's all a question of context. After all, Maia served more DFs than Tara but, overall, they both had the same second service win percentage. It depends what she was trying to do with her second serve.

Anyway, Maia won, and Tara will certainly regret that it got moved indoors. But that's out of everyone's hands. Great to get a woman through to R2 and hopefully Tara will be happy with the way she's playing, especially if the sun were ever to shine again....
