With the grass season about to start in two weeks time, I felt it might be good to repeat last years bit of fun where we predicted which male or female player would win the most MAIN DRAW singles matches during the grass court events. I am including all events, ATP Tour/WTA Tour/ATP Challenger/ITF Womens events on grass over that time . Note I am not including Newport RI, it is just up to Wimbledon
I have posted it early , 2 weeks ahead of grass starting to allow folks to make an opinion and to close the poll as the grass season actually starts - plus I go on holiday next weekend and so wanted to do it now. I will update standings regularly once Surbiton starts and also track the doubles standings, although I wont do a poll for that.
POLL WILL CLOSE 31st May late afternoon.
To remind folks, the grass events this season:
Week 23 - Surbiton Trophy - Challenger men and ITF women
Week 24 - WTA Nottingham Open and WTA s'Hertogenbosch
Week 24 - ATP Stuttgart and ATP 's-Hertogenbosch;
Week 24 - ATP Nottingham Trophy Challenger
Week 24 - Manchester - ITF Women
Week 25 - WTA Birmingham and WTA Mallorca
Week 25 - ATP Queen's Club and ATP Halle
Week 25 - Ilkley - ATP Challenger men and ITF women
Week 26 - WTA Eastbourne
Week 26 - ATP Eastbourne and ATP Antalya
Week 27/28 - Wimbledon - men and women
So in total there are 10 mens events and 9 womens events. Of these, though, 4 mens events are outside the UK and 2 womens. Most GB players if not all will play only events on home soil and therefore the overseas events are most likely to not provide any main draw wins in singles.
The poll is to predict which mens OR womens (1 player) will win the most main draw matches over the course of these events. Remember some of the events are ATP or WTA full tour and quite high level events, so it maybe you think someone will shine at that level and take advantage of a wild card or two. One event is a grand slam of course. But of course several events are at ITF or Challenger level and thus might be easier for some of our ladies and men to take advantage. And will Andy be back??!
To be realistic I have listed our top nine men and top nine ladies. Some of you may think someone outside the top nine will come good but lets face it , it is highly unlikely that will happen at main draw level, but I have included an AN Other Male and female. Naomi Broady of course it outside the top 10 just now, so she might be an example of someone who comes good.
Couple of rules - if someone receives a bye, that doesn't count as a win; however, if someone gets a walkover, then for the purposes of this it will count as a win. As I understand it, that is how the ATP and WTA accumulate someones win/loss record on the tours, walkovers count as wins. That is just the luck of the draw and good luck to anyone lucky enough to get a walkover!

I like the fact that you've got one bisexual player in their Jon, with the ability to play both men's and women's events
Sure as hell there is no-one that jumps out at one, but Jo will probably be a favourite if she stays fit. How long can we sit on the fence for, when is the voting deadline day/ time?

Voting deadline will be start of Surbiton main draw so that is Monday 3rd June I think!
PS I should say that I dont think I have the "rights" to close a poll, and will in fact be on holiday on the day I have chosen to close it, so if one of the mods like Indiana was able to do that for me (morning of Monday 3rd June or evening 2nd June) then that would be great!
PPS poll seems to have allowed me to close it in 2 weeks time, so slightly earlier than planned but i think friday 31st May will be good enough and probably before anyone is influenced by the first draws coming out for Surbiton (poll system seems to offer days, then 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks then 1 month, 2 months, as opposed to offering a specific number of days or a date)

Wimbledon (men) - likely to be Edmund, Norrie and Evans direct entry
Wimbledon (women) - Konta and possibly Watson direct entry.
Clearly many wildcards and , hopefully, many qualifiers yet to come but at this stage Konta and Norrie will have the most outings, in case that colours anyone predictions.
Looking back at last years poll, 35 folks voted and over half fir jo and evo combined. 3 of the 35 voted for harriet and Katie b in total- will we be taken by surprise again?

Well, it's very sad Katie B won't be in the running again this time round
And the main question people will have to consider, having found her feet on clay, how well will Jo adapt back to grass again!
I did consider not including Katie b and Andy m in the poll, but I took the view of never say never, however unlikely.
I recall entering the grass season last year feeling v buoyant about our players for some reason, more on the ladies side. This year I feel quite pessimistic apart from jo and Dan on the mens, I'm finding it hard to feel any of them will outperform their rankings.

I thought there was talk of it going for all together, singles, doubles and mixed?
It was singles and dubs last year. Why is it now split? It's all fun, and well done for doing it, but it becomes far more technical, not such a punt.
Hi CD. Last year I kept the lists as separate singles and doubles lists but all in one thread. But singles was definitely separate, harriet and Katie topped it, and neal topped the doubles. We did have a discussion a couple of months ago you're correct and it was punted as one list but I decided to stick with last year, rightly or wrongly.
I'll post the link though as last year was definitely two separate lists in one thread.
Will Dan Evans wild card for Queen's see him have a stronger chance of topping this listing? So far, Norrie, Evans, Clarke, Ward, Konta have the most main draw entries
Just to confirm the Brits who have direct entries/wild cards into the grass court main draw events this season so far:
