Week 42 - ITF ($15K) - Antalya, Turkey Hard

Yes, this win for Emma was much closer than it looked, with that 0-3 deficit Emma had in the second set. The 7th game was also crucial, as Emma was 15-40 down and faced 4 BPs in the game before eventually holding. Gubina obviously has potential, but a good win for Emma in the end.

R16: Emma Raducanu GBR [7] 823 beat Polina GUBINA (UKR) UNR 16yrs (JCH:145 Jan 18) 6-3 6-4

Isn't the 7th game always crucial? That's what my coach said, all those years ago!

That's what Dan Maskell used to say in commentary, many moons ago! I think he used the word "vital".

I hope Emma is firing on all cylinders for her next match as she plays the second seed who is up to around 500 on LR.

Good examination indeed, and passes with flying colours 3 & 2
Craciun won her last three 15k tournaments, including last week in Antalya

The ITF livestream miraculously started working for me today so I was able to watch the second set of this match and was seriously impressed. Go Emma!!!

Correct. Huge talent. Gave Harriet Dart a proper match in Manchester Challenger

Emma arguably more promising or equal to Jack on the mens side. How many players higher than her age wise? Must be less each week if she continues.

Emma is the fifth highest 15 year old in the official rankings, at WR828 with 17 points.

The highest is WR736 on 24 points, so she will almost certainly overtake that when the latest points go on.

bit hard to make a full comparrisson at that age tho as they dont all make efforts in seniors at the same time
some only realy start trying to rack up wta points close to 17/18
its an incompleat rough measure tho the best we can do

wich dont undermine how very very good emma could be just a caution

i do worry tho that emmas progress might be used to mask how little else there is coming through

I agree, Tom T.

Taking nothing away from Emma- it's brilliant what she's doing - but the pathway of many of the youngsters varies a lot - some prioritise juniors, some domestics, some just development. And growth is important too, Emma is practically 16, there's still a fair bit of difference between the girls at that age.
And yes, I agree with your last point too - I hope it's not just her - some of the other much touted ones that I've seen this year have Been pretty disappointing.
