So in the Race, Kyle can get a max of 1000 (Paris), 500 (Vienna) and 205 Antwerp - so 1705 total with Thiem 1590 ahead. Another win in Shanghai would net him 180 points, before probably facing Djoko. So that 180 points could be v important (and then of course he still has to go on a 3 event winning streak. Be a good point of the season to break that winners duck and in some style!

Just waiting for Jaggy to turn up to say he's beaten nobody good yet so doesn't deserve the points
Whats his record against top 10 players? Top 16 even. Must be the highest ranked player ever with so few top wins. Luck of the draw isnt it though, can only beat whats in front of you.
Contrast this with Andys rise when top 10 players were being beaten every other week.
Anyway lets see what happens v Zverev. If he wins a set it will be progress. Cant see it though.

This year ( ie the year where he has now progressed into the top 16 ) his record against top 10 players is Won 2, Lost 3 and against top 16 is Won 5, Lost 4.
Edited since I initially missed a top 16 win from his ATP site activity. So actually I make it more wins than losses against top 16 this year.

All you can do is what a fantastic year for Kyle regardless of how this final run in pans out, there are very few formites who thought he would get close to this rank in 2018, indeed relatively few who felt he was genuine top 10 material. Undoubtedly he will embed himself in the top 10 at sometime soon and assuming he stays fit he may well take up residence at that level through to his late 20s. Personally I would be quite happy for him to quit in November and get a training block in for 2019!
I would however love to see him get some competition from the likes of Dan next year and eventually giving way to Jack and the other 2001 boys. There is of course that Andy fella still hanging around but room in the top 10 for both!

As a comparison I looked at a top ten player at random, John Isner, to see if Kyles record against top ten/twenty players and his ranking was a complete anomoly. Isners record is four lost against top ten players in 2018 and three won (no matches against 11-20). Isner got to the semis at Wimbledon without playing a single top 20 player and also the quarters at US Open. He also won an ATP 250 when playing only one top 50 player (no 45). Clearly its easier when youre a top ten player to avoid other top ten players because of your seeding, but still I think Kyles record and level of luck isnt a complete outlier.
By the end of the year on the male side we could have
1. The worlds highest ranked 14 yr old
2. The worlds highest ranked 16 yr old
3. The worlds if not the best ever challenger player!

This made me laugh out loud, very true indeed haha

Yes, definitely appealed to my sense of humour too.
I dont know if he perhaps wasnt feeling so good, or just the contrast with Zverev, but whereas the previous two matches he really impressed me with his confidence and power, it was not so this time.
