A lot of players fallen by wayside now today: Kyle needs to keep on winning unfortunately so this narrative could come to an end but for now he is up and running. Coric, Bautista-Agut play later today so could fall away and leave just those in Live positions 5-12 fighting over those few positions.

I can't see him beating Zverev, but 12 is pretty good for a challenger player

Who knows if anyone will drop out, and even if he's only in the mix for hanging around for knocking up with it would be good experience for him.

I agree he probably won't beat Zverev, but still think it's a bit insulting to call Kyle a "challenger player" He must have been competing on the tour for a couple of years now, and is competing well at this level, even if he yet to win a tournament. I'm with those on this forum who like to celebrate his achievements - not put him down.

Yes, to clarify, I've been following Kyle since I saw him age 17 at Wrexham with Greg chaperoning him. I figured he must be something special as there were quite few Brits that week, but Greg had most interest in Kyle's games. It's been irking me considerably that some members of this forum keep saying that he is way overrated and really only worthy to be at challenger level. I'm rapt that Kyle's got this high and hope he can make top 10 next year

Tsitsipas is at 13 but as he is out of Shanghai he can't get enough points to qualify (although clearly others above may drop out of London so I guess he still has something to aim at)

The last 8 is:

Federer v Nishikori - they havent played in 18 months, Federer is 5-2 up over career although not playing that convincingly this week. He is doing the old Pete Sampras act, just enough to win it seems, but still think he will edge out KN is 3

Coric v Ebden - never played before. If Coric wins (and he must be favourite) he will go ahead of Kyle in the Race if Kyle loses.

Kyle v Zverev - met 3 times and all to Zverev incl Beijing last year in straight sets. Zverev is obviously favourite but you never know. I am not sure a loss would finish it for Kyle. After this week there is an ATP 250 next week for him in Antwerp, then ATP 500 and ATP 1000 events. He would need 1600 points to get past Thiem and presumably would need to win all events remaining to make that realistic - unless he can keep going here. But presumably he wont be able to max out his points in that ATP 250 event if he has some counting already, maybe someone else knows the details for Kyle?

Anderson v Djokovic - 6-1 head to head for Djoko and Anderson last won in 2008....

Djoko must be favourite to win the tournie but Coric looks an interesting pick in the top half to make it to the final...

In terms of Kyle's points to defend, he has 180 from reaching the SF in Vienna last year and then 45 from reaching the 2nd round in Paris.

His lowest counter in the ATP 250 category is 45 from a QF. So as you say, even a victory in Antwerp would only see a net gain of 205 points.
