That's the midnight match (7pm local) so there will likely be a healthy supportive crowd there for Marino. Interesting that they both have the same career high.

Marino is another who has been on the come back trail this year having started the year unranked. She won 3 15ks in a row in Antalya in Feb, having to come through qualifying in the first one, then gaining SEs to the next two - three actually, since she then played a fourth tournament but lost in the QF. Since then she reached a 25k final in Japan in April, won a 25k final in Winnipeg in July, reached the QF of the Granby 60k in July and the QF of the Vancouver 100k in August. So it's been a year of some steady progress for her. Still reaching the QF here is already her biggest counter of this come back so up to Heather to stop it from becoming even larger.
Interestingly, since Hobart in Jan when Heather reached the SF and got 128 pts, she has not had a 100 pointer either, so reaching the SF here to pick up 110 pts, would also be her second biggest points gain of the year.
Lepchenko's QF defeat to Parmentier here should ensure that Heather returns to the top 100. She is live 99 with Anisimova in the Hiroshima SF showing as the only remaining player who can push her down from that. Been there, done it and by a large margin of course so not as meaningful as it will be for Katie B when it hopefully happens for her but still good to see.
Now can she push even further upwards ...
By the way Heather is WR 107 in the current rankings. 116 is her 27/08 pre US Open ranking.

Jessica Pegula who beat both Gabi and Katy in a recent North American ITF event has come through qualifying here to reach the semi final ending Martic's recent winning streak. She plays fellow American Kenin in the bottom half.
Rebecca has been a major factor in mantaining Canada's position in the strongest nations table - now up to #5 at 264 - next to catch is Andreescu at 210. OER have her at #4 at 215 and Andreescu at #5 at 232. Abanda is on 208 at #3.
Hev gets the break after threatening in Marino's previous service game (had 30-15). *4-2. Hev's last 2 service games have been very comfortable, think she just lost one point combined and hopefully another one to follow here...
