Week 33 - ITF ($100K) - Vancouver, Canada Hard

Heather not content it seems to just let these young upstarts upstage and usurp her

Doi is in a bit of a similar situation to Heather - the former National leader and top WTA player now in a bit of a down cycle due to injury and loss of form, and overtaken by up-and-coming compatriots like Naomi Osaka, Hibino & Kato - but still a very good player in there somewhere.

When Heather reaches finals, she generally has a good record in them, 8-2, so hopeful for a ninth career singles title, and first since 2016

Good tournament choice for Hev, ecstatic to see her doing the business a championship win would give her a great lift for the next couple of weeks.

Thank goodness I missed this on the schedule - at least I got some sleep last night. Well done Hev. Very pleased she followed up the win over Katie and has had such a good week here. Fingers crossed for one final push.

Great work from Heather this week...I'm a Doi fan so best possible final for me given Heather and Katie had to meet earlier.

Fingers crossed Heather can pull it out in the final.

I'm glad Hev won, I would have hated it if she had knocked Katie out and then gone back to her recent form. Let's hope that this can be a real push to get her back closer t o her former level.

Really please that Heather has been able to put a confidence-building run together here. Hopefully, she can take the title now. I notice she has had to beat two seeds on her way to the final and that neither Hibino nor Doi faced any seeds at all.

I noticed that Katie is 94 ranked in the live WTA race, with Heather at 106 and rising to 96 if she wins today. Joko is 31 in the live race.

So on this year's form we could have 3 top 100 by end of day which isn't too shoddy, as well as 2 in the men's

Mind, speaking of loss of form, poor Kato is on a terrible run and is #347 in the race. She's still 9 places above Doi in the live rankings 171-180 (and hopefully that stays the same this time tomorrow), but once those Japan international (now at Hiroshima) final points come off, she'll slip right down the rankings so this could well be her last Grand Slam involvement for a while. Currently 3-10 with those 3 wins all coming in a 25k event in Thailand.

Good news for British tennis as Dan Evans levels up his final with Kubler to take it into a decider, but bad news for those wanting to follow Heather's match to a conclusion before bed :)
