2018 British Grass Court Season - Which player will win the most Main Draw matches - a Poll!

From our original list in the poll, the following players are yet to win on grass this season

Murray
Norrie
Naomi Broady
Liam Broady
Clarke
Robson
Moore
Corrie
Glasspool

Almost half the 20 put up to vote on...

Still, 3 weeks left to play. Although from the above, we can guarantee Laura Robson and Ed Corrie will both get no wins by the end of the grass as they have no events left to play.

Well, CD and The Optimist should be feeling even more optimistic today:

Day 18 table: 32 wins in total as Harriet adds one and draws level in top spot.

1 H. Dart 7
D. Evans 7
3 K. Boulter 4
J. Konta 4
5 J. Ward 2
G. Taylor 2
7 K. Edmund 1
A. Ward 1
H. Watson 1
S.B. Grey 1
K. Dunne 1
K. Swan 1

and this remains the day 19, 20 and 21 table as well. Next week could make things interesting though with Andy playing in Eastbourne with kyle also. And no Dan of course.

For those interested, I had a quick tot up of our QUALIFIER winners on grass this season.

List to be updated as Eastbourne (Dunne results included to date), Roehampton qualies happen - non at Southsea of course.

Also I have excluded the Wimbledon Pre Qualifiers, this is just pure qualifying wins

List headed up by Brydan Klein and Ed Corrie, which may or may not surprise some. Katy Dunne might draw equal with a good win tomorrow in Eastbourne. Jonathan Gray could possibly haul up to 3 wins but would need to perform well in Eastbourne.

Note 24 wins each for men and women in this list

1 B. Klein 4
E. Corrie 4
3 K. Dunne 3
E. Richardson 3
D. Evans 3
6 E. Appleton 2
E. Taylor 2
J. Findel-Hawkins 2
M. Whitehouse 2
K. Swan 2
A. Barnett 2
V. Allen 2
13 J. Burrage 1
B. Harris 1
E. Silva 1
F. Christie 1
L. Glasspool 1
A. Canter 1
J. Binding 1
J. Gray 1
O. Weightman 1
T. Moore 1
L. Holtum 1
S. Yardley 1
E. Webley-Smith 1
J. Molloy 1
L. Bambridge 1
N. Miller 1
N. Pauffley 1

Spooky I was just about to look at this thinking this would be an interesting set of stats and lo and behold......

It would also be informative to add a denominator not that I think it should impact the outcome unless the scores on the doors are equal. Big fan of total wickets as the most significant stat in assessing bowlers performance over a season again then less interest in a denominator although it adds some flavour. Great thread thanks

it would be interesting - my issue is I'm not the much missed blob !

I do actually keep a track of number of events they've gained wins in, the idea being someone scoring 3 wins in 3 events is better than 3 wins in one event, rewarding consistent Performance as opposed to one off. I'll reshow both lists using that tonight as a second denomination .

Matches won v lost and sets won v lost is probably the obvious thing but requires more work than I have tracked and more commitment that I could give !

Glad folks like the thread though - keeps me amused!

Looks like tara will join ed and laura in the guaranteed winless group. Hands up, which voted for laura, 2 folks got that one wrong!

the interesting thing in this qualifier list is that most of the top listed players won't be playing any more qualifying matches. The one major exception is Dan, so he could conceivably win this list and also come up trumps and win on the main draw list also. Katie dunne can draw equal at top on 4 wins if she wins today , but only Dan can better a score of 4 with two wins or more in Roehampton.

Evo was always going to have to go the long road which is why he garnered a significant proportion of the vote. Despite Topems viscous attempts to tear this must prestigious Brittennis.net tittle from him, his suspension (I think it was for speaking brumajum in SW19... thats the rumour I heard although Trump has alledgely been tweeting about a connection with a Colombian drug baron) has significantly skewed things in that assuming a smidgeon of fitness his talent was always going to allow him to progress in challenger level tournaments.

Given the AELTC will be tracking this, should Dan win, perhaps we award him the Dan Evans resurrection award. We could award the tittle Brittennis.net most prolific on grass award to the runner up (I mean to give it to Dan is only going to cause him more problems) The winnerdoesnt necessarily have the talent Evo does but will have been the most prolific at their level of competition in the grass court season. To take any other approach just wouldnt be cricket now would it!

Getting the WC into Queens rather than playing Ilkley will have thrown a few people - might well have had a few wins there.

Hi Oakland - yes, as Indy says the poll and my subsequent results tracking has been main draw wins only, although Dan playing at Challenger level in MD matches was clearly going to still be too his potential advantage.

I perhaps confused matters by looking at the qualifying results as well. To clarify, Dan has 7 main draw wins, putting him equal top with Harriet, but also has 3 qualifying wins, all of which were at Surbiton.

Of course, the LTA tried to even things up by a) putting Dan into pre quals to ensure he couldnt play Eastbourne and  b) would have to win 6 matches to  even reach Wimbledon.

Clearly, the LTA chaps and chappesses voted for Harriet to win this challenge.

I should just add that no change to the main  draw table at all in past couple of days as no action (in the qualifying list, no change either apart from lower down where Jay gathered a win).

Definitely - as things stand though, Andy and maybe Kyle could gather a few wins in Eastbourne, although Kyle will be limited to 4 of course, and this may bring them up so we end up with maybe 3 or 4 players getting close to the top at the end of next week - Dan, Harriet , One of Kyle or Andy, maybe Jo Ko.

And for Wimbledon itself are you only going to count MD wins, Jon? I mean there are large points on offer in the Q draw... and well it would help defeat the AELTC strategy of anyone but Dan for the grass court most winners title. Oh, and I think the Britishtennis.net winner should definitely be announced through a large social media occasion - definitely Steven's twitter account at the least, but any other means would also be good. Of course, a little less significant if either Jo or Kyle, but definitely the case if either Dan or Harriet (for different reasons of course, Harriet's because she is still relatively unknown and unheralded despite what she has achieved this year). wink
