2018 British Grass Court Season - Which player will win the most Main Draw matches - a Poll!

realistically, this is now between Dart (CD and the Optimist went with Harriet), Joko (9 of us went with Jo) and Katie B (one person went with KB - it may be someone has come out already but that could be a canny choice! Unveil yourselves if you dare!).

Men need someone to go far into this week and possibly next, so doesnt look like it will be a mens winner...

Updates to the doubles table: Neal moves slightly ahead as he won and Joe lost, Bambo and Jonny doing well and keeping in touch. this one could go to the wire. Dom isnt far off but realistically I dont think he can claw back 4 wins at Wimbledon, so it looks like this is between the current top, 4 alive this week in Eastbourne. Either way, will be won on the male side clearly.

The realistic runners are probably Harriet, Katie and Jo now, Dan is out of course. However, James Ward , Andy Murray, Cam Norrie , Jay Clarke, Kyle Edmund could all reach 8 wins or more by winning big over the next two weeks or so. One of these players to win Wimbledon I hear you all asking? Heard it here first!
Liam and Naomi at bottom on zero as they are still in theory alive and kicking in the "Race" - not sure if I have missed anyone?

PS Overall we are now at 38 wins over the grass season. Might reach 50 at a push, doubtful we will reach the 54 of last season I think it was
2015 - 43 wins
2016 - 47 wins
2017 - 54 wins
2018 - 38 wins and counting. We will get at least 2 more this week, possibly 4 or 5 eventually, and then maybe half a dozen at Wimbledon, so probably high 40's/50 is a reasonable target

So, day 24 and we can look back on 3 more wins, taking the list to 41 wins. Katie winning moves her into 3rd place, Kyle and cam still some way back.

Looking at it closely, Andy, Jay, Heather, Katy and Katy all have to win Wimbledon to draw level at the top - dont see it really!

Gabi and James need to win Wimbledon to take the lead in the race - again, not at all likely

Cam and Kyle could still add up to 3 wins this week and put themselves right back in it.

Jo would need to reach last 8 to reach the top - possible although not on current form

Katie still in southsea and could add 2 there. Dan is out of it.

Realistically now between Harriet, Katie B, JoKo and Kyle or Cam as outsiders.

So with James Ward's slightly disappointing demise today, the British involvement in the QUALIFYING rounds is all done now. The final table across the grass events is therefore:

As before, I am not sure who to declare the winner here, so lets declare it a 3 way tie between Klein, Evans and Corrie. All in all we had 54 wins across the qualifying events. 30 of those came from the men's side and 24 from the women, pretty evenly split I would say, maybe reflecting slightly that the better women that may have previously played qualies had raised their standards to get into main draws whereas many of the men are still playing in the qualies.

Anyway, done and dusted and can focus on the serious stuff now!

Here is the day 25 doubles update: Neal and Ken and Bambo and Jonny all won and make this still v interesting. Reality is though that Neal has moved ahead at the top a little, with Ken his nearest challenger. Ken clearly cant overtake Neal. If Neal and Ken win in the Eastbourne final, Neal goes 4 clear of the guys in the pack, meaning it would take a Wimbledon final from someone / a pair to usurp him. However, if Bambo and O'Mara can get the win in the final it makes things much tighter and still all to play for at Wimbledon.

So if that helps anyone decide who to root for in the Eastbourne final, there we go - I like a good fight so will back Bambo and O'Mara!

So, a disappointing day on day 25 for the men, but Katie Boulter made a big leap and goes equal 2nd but with games in hand!

Looking at it now Kyle and Cam need to win Wimbledon to top the table...mmm. So it is down to Jo (a quarterfinal at least) or most likely a straight battle between Katie and Harriet. Now who would have thought that!

Out of the wins, 42 in total now, 26 are ladies and 16 men - lets hope it is 43 wins tomorrow and Katie draws level!

Just carrying on my one person conversation in this thread - hope no one minds, it amuses me at least

GB has 42 wins this season; although we managed 54 wins last season, we got 14 of those at Wimbledon, so we had 40 at this point. With KB still to play it could be 43 this season, so 2 or 3 more at this same point. So in fact, it seems that this season so far is proving to be the best to date over the past few years at least for Brits on grass. All might change at Wimbledon but some cause for optimism at least.

So, Katies final loss in Southsea means Days 26 (and 27 and 28) finish as we are: I have added each players Wimbledon opponent ( or an X where they arent in the draw) .

From this, Katie probably moves into favourites position (albeit a win today would have helped a great deal) and maybe Jo is now also well placed tucked in behind the leaders as we enter the last lap ).

And to finish off my weeks labours, here is the doubles table updated for todays fab win by Bambo and Jonny. realistically, Neal still favourite, particularly after L and J drew the 2nd seeds at Wimbledon, but at least it keeps it open for now and , in theory at least, anyone down to Heather could at least get to 10 wins - note, mixed doubles wont be included in the doubles rankings (and to be frank I probably dont think a separate MIXED doubles listing will be needed either! )

Could well be - to be honest I hadnt decided. Michael D raised a similar question a few days ago and I think I suggested events scored in, but we could have wins at Wimbledon as that covers everyone and sort of makes it the "play offs" in essence. I had thought of a tennis equivalent to fair play in the World Cup, Hawkeye challenges successfully made or some such, but decided a) the stats wouldnt be there and b) it might change players behaviours with the massive prize at stake here

Any other ideas welcomed - I will confirm on Sunday latest!

Arguably for the poll, anyone predicting a joint winner on wins is entitled to declare themselves to have predicted the joint winner in that contest since no tiebreaker was previously declared.

But if we want to separately declare a best number of wins player based on a tiebreaker OK, but whether necessary ...
