Absolutely agree,but sadly moping about it ain't going to change the result. There are a hell of a lot of positives for her this week but she must move on quickly to the next tournament and be able and determined to perform well there and not allow the same thing to happen again next time she is close to the winning line.

Still a great tournament for HD, defending those SF points and that great win over Wickmayer and even Swan who is much more well known and generally rated as the better prospect, but at the same time she will be disappointed. Much more winnable match than last year's semi final and had 3 MPs and was serving for it twice, plus up a mini break in the deciding TB.

It's been a good tournament overall for the Brits with some very notable wins, but it's tailed off basically from the moment Harriet secured the victory over Wickmayer. At this time we had a semi finalist in Dart and Gabi and Katie were both a set up in their respective QF matches so it looked like we would be guaranteed a finalist in that top half and a good chance of KB getting to the SF where she admittedly would have had a very tough task vs Riske. Plus side for Harriet is that she is defending no more wins in the grass season. Nothing now until that Chinese WTA event.

I guess I will hoping Riske takes the title here now to keep the potential Surbiton WC in house.

Most people, given she is nearly 3 younger than Harriet with a JCH 2 and was an Australian Open girls finalist at 15. Quite difficult transition to seniors but with less injury issues, and more wins presumably helping her confidence, is having a much better year ( meaning personally rather than compared to Harriet ).

But indeed, great week from Harriet and a such an encouraging season from all 5 of our girls GB ranked 4 to 8.

You being serious? I'd say by most people in tennis. 2 and a half years younger but at similar stages in the rankings. Junior pedigree - Aussie Jr final, Wimbledon QF, already been called up to the Fed Cup team. 14,000 Twitter followers vs 2,500 etc. It's not even close.

Hmmm. Katie may or may not be a better prospect, but the number of twitter followers is totally irrelevant. Laura has 385,000 but I don't rate her prospects very high at the moment - much as I love her.

As to prospect, we're not saying they are right (what? The LTA be wrong?) But they obviously think Katie is a better prospect- they gave her a Wimbly md wildcard and not Harriet.

Yeah, as CD says, I just added the Twitter followers part as being generally more well known. Laura of course is very well known, even to sports fans outside the tennis market so that kind of backs up that even more.

Final score listed. Harriet had 3 MPs in 2 games before the TB. Conny is now up to 160 in the live rankings. Some week for her.

As has been noted by Indy, Harriet matches her performance from last year, and treads water in the rankings, staying at #198. If she can replicate this kind of performance in Manchester this coming week, then she will most definitely move up the rankings now

Well yes of course I agree that they are better known - I just don't necessarily agree that makes them a better prospect. But then I always prefer those who quietly go about their business without too much publicity etc, which is why I'm such a big fan of Harriet and Gabi.
