Hi Lambda - you are usually great at sourcing documents from the LTA that describe all of this (and in relation to your other post about the UKPL not providing wild cards) - do you have something this time?

Girls

There have been a good number of GB juniors taking part in adult competitions in the last couple of weeks (it being summer holidays, and there being some domestic events)

Not a huge amount of success though....

For instance, Isabelle Lacy, Ciara Moore and Ranah Stoiber all lost in R1 at Roehampton. And juniors in qualis also lost.

At Foxhills, however, Given Roach got an excellent win over Hule, WTA 323,

and Ranah defeated Marni Banks, WTA 421

Ruby Cooling (2007) also got a very good win in qualis over Lauryn John-Baptiste, WTA 826

Ella also beat Navarro WTA 647 and Given beat Conway, WTA 710

Other results elsewhere were not (IMO) particulalry noteworthy

Boys

The boys had no real wins of note, apart from Phoenix who beat Adam Jones, ATP 1210, in qualis in Roehampton, and Freddy Blaydes got a win in doubles with his brother.

The best result amongst our juniors this week (week 33) has been Henry Searle (2006) who has made the QFs (and counting) in the 25k in Aldershot, beating Ben Jones and Oscar Weightman

Ella and Ranah lost in R1

Luca Pow, Zach Stephens and Henry Jefferson all lost in qualis. As did Lois Newberry, Ellie Blackford, Ciara Moore, Allegra Hodson, Jaquelyn Ogunwale and Ruby Cooling

However, excellent QR1 wins for Amelie Brooks (age 16) and Sophie Bekker (age 14) over seeded q players

Lucia Cassidy (age 16) has also picked up a couple of QR1 wins, but at 15k level and not against ranked players.

There have been some reasonable showings by our juniors playing adult tennis this first week in October

In the girls, Imogen Haddad has won three matches in qualis, and then beaten a WTA ranked player in R1, in Tunisia, to get what I think is her first WTA ranking point

Ranah Stoiber lost in R1 but made the semi-finals of the 15k in Tunisia last week

Hep Oluwadare lost in three sets in her 15k

In the boys, Zach Stephens is playing the 15k in Doha and has also come through qualis and won his R1 match

Henry Searle is also into R2 of the 15k in Egypt

ADD: Henry went on to make the semis in singles and the final in doubles

Thanks, CD. There certainly are a lot of emerging and transitioning juniors starting their journey to senior tennis. It makes me wonder whether another section is needed on the main page just for transitioning juniors in addition to the juniors playing senior tennis on the junior page. Some seem to have gone through the junior route Others have taken a different path and it is so tricky following all of them - although I am not complaining!

That's the good thing here - anyone can start a thread and sometimes they take off, sometimes they die, and sometimes they carry on but only really because the original poster loves and cares for it (which is fine too

)

For me, I think I'm happy where it is

The transitioning group is rather vague - I mean, I see that next year there will be Ella and Ranah, say. If the US college threads continue (which I REALLY hope they do), then all the Kristina Paskauskas sort of players will fit in there. But Isabelle and Mimi will still be juniors playing adult.

Just me, I rather like the individual player threads as a way to follow specific ones. And pretty much all our best players now have one.

I might have missed some but here are the main items from last week:

Shrewsbury 100k: Hannah Klugman (age 14) leads the news here, coming through qualis, and winning two MD rounds, beating a heap of players ranked 550 or so, and top-200 Lily, before losing in three sets to Dodin.
Hannah is now ranked WTA 734 (+367)

Other juniors had some very good matches (Imogen Haddad and Isabelle Lacy are two that come to mind) but didn't get the win

Edgbaston 25k: Henry Searle made the QFs

Tunisia 15k: Phoenix Weir beat the ATP 800 player in R1, but lost in R2

For the week to come, and to get ahead of the game, shout out to:

Hep Oluwadare (2007) - QR1 win at 60k Glasgow (over Eliz, WTA 453)
Mimi Xu (2007) - QR1 win at 60k Glasgow (over Gimbrere, WTA 542)

Charlie Robertson (2006) - QR1 win at 25k Galsgow

Phoenix Weir (2006) - same

Two good wins to make the Glasgow Main Draw for our junior boys:

FQR: Charlie Robertson UNR def (q2) Michael Zhu (USA) WR 970 6-7(4) 6-2 [10-6]

FQR: (q8) Phoenix Weir WR 1586 def (q13) James Mackinlay UNR 5 & 0

And Mimi laid down a real marker in the FQR at Glasgow 60k, beating Middendorf, WTA 356, with absolute ease, 2 & 1

Equally, congrats to Lucia for a win over a ranked player in the 15k in Tunisia
