Juniors playing professional senior tennis

Week 50 is turning into a good week for our juniors.

So far:

Matilda Mutavdzic (2004) has picked up her first singles WTA point (from her very first adult ITF match)

Harry Wendelken (2001) has picked up his first singles ATP point

And Emma Raducanu (2002) is into the QFs of the 25k in Pune, in absolute style.

In week 50, Emma Raducanu stormed it, winning the 25k title in Pune.

As above, good showings from some of our other juniors too.

And, from last week, Anton Mat is +80 places in today's ATP rankings, closing in on the top 500, at 580.

In week 51, congrats to Harry Wendelken (2001) who made the QFs of the 15k (both singles and doubles) in Doha

At the start of January, great to see Max Basing (2002) get his first ATP singles point, at the 15k in Spain.

Also, as reported by Status Quo, Marni Banks (2002) has been given a wildcard into the qualis at the WTA event in Adelaide - which is pretty mega !

Cheri Darley, born 2003, has had a great start in Tunisia this week, coming through the qualis, winning two matches against WTA ranked players, and barely breaking sweat (winning 1&1, and 4&0)

Freia Lawrence, also 2003, got a win in her QR1 match in Spain and very narrowly lost her second match in qualis, losing the MTB 9-11 :(

Nice to see our two top 2002-born lads getting wins in the home 25k at Barnstaple today.

Both Arthur Féry and Felix Gill lost in the R2 matches in Barnstaple. But a good week for them, nonetheless, and they'll have another chance in the two events to come.

Great for Kiana MOKHTARI (born 2002) to get a win in the qualis for the 25k in Perth over Madison FRAHN UNR/1286

Jasmine Conway, born 2004, also posted a very decent score in QR1 in Glasgow against a very well ranked player, as did Marni Banks (2002), losing in the MTB.

From the Sunderland 25k, well done to Marni Banks and Holly Staff, both 2002 born, who got wins in the first round in qualis yesterday

And further congrats to Marni for winning her FQR match and making the MD.

The star of the day, however, is the 'baby' of the tournament, Eva Shaw, born 2005, who won her R1 match at Sunderland in two sets (over Ali Collins).

Fantastic effort from Eva today to be performing at that level at just 14 years old!

And Sunderland continues to shine on our girls.

Emma Raducanu (born 2002) takes out the second seed, in two sets, despite a rather alarming fall/collapse.

And Marni Banks (born 2002), who qualified, and is still unranked, took out the WTA 323, ex junior 18, in two sets.

Great show.

Just to complete the week to say that Emma Raducanu made the final of the 25k in Sunderland, losing a tight three-setter in the final.

As a snap-shot of our position, on the first Monday of March 2020, Great Britain currently has:

1 girl with an adult WTA ranking (Emma, 376)

3 boys with adult rankings (Arthur Féry 1185, Felix Gill 1477, Max Basing 1444)

Again, just as a comparison, Italy has 4 girls, and 7 boys
