This Edmund hype on this thread recently is a bit over the top.

Last few days and also next few matches prove nothing, we have known for some time that Kyle is able to blow challenger level players out of the water, he excels at it. However, when he comes up against players with constantly deep ground strokes and faster ball speed, he will not be able to unwind his FH and will be in trouble. Should win his next match though and cement himself as a top 45 player.

Gutted that I missed Kyles victory over Anderson an early reward for Kyles constant efforts to make himself better and part of his natural progression. Kyle has now made his own luck and opened up the draw for himself a bit. To get in the top 32 would really help him, playing like this and it will be just a matter of time.

Vandy does make a valid point within his diatribe re Kyles backswing on his monster forehand. Yes, he may have to shorten it on occasions against the very best players but what a problemto have with your forehand.

If Kevin Anderson is Challenger level how many players are actually ATP level - 10??

Absolutely. But quite a few of the guys who 'power' their forehands, rather than generate speed through taking the ball that bit earlier or acceleration, have a rather big wind up. Del Potro is one. Stan does a bit too. And a lot of others who are not quite as 'big' guys.

My fear is the Kyle will make it into the Top 32, just as the number of seeds at Slams is reduced to 16. Perhaps he needs to set his sights that bit higher. wink

Looks more to me that Kyle has found a very good coach for himself, who for one thing has evidently played a big part in quite startlingly changing his on court body language for the better and thus perhaps freeeing him up much more emotionally quite apart from the messages it sends out. I hoped that this area could be worked on, it needed to be worked on, but this has been great. How related that also is to already impressive close wins against good players this season, separate work or just natural development I don't know. I suspect that it has at least played a part.

Are such things "natural progression" I'm not so sure but credit to Kyle for making the choices that are seemingly helping him to so improve. Anyway noone would accuse you of not having a theme

Edmund vs Basilashvili
Seppi vs Karlovic

So while Kyle's immediate section is devoid of seeds the other bit is still full of them. Hope Kyle continues to progress and these seeds give each other right good long grinds. As it is just to get there, Dimitrov beat McKenzie MacDonald of the USA 8-6 in the 5th and Tsonga repelled Shapavalov 7-5 in the 5th. Karlovic had one of his long tie breaks involved matces to finally beat Sugita 12-10 in the 5th.

20 seeds left in mens. Zverev has Chung next in quite a tasty match, then possibly Djokovic in a big collision in the last 16. Fed v Gasquet next also, DelPo v Berdych.

Although Kyle has a couple of opportunities in his next match and last 16 to really progress, the draw all around seems to have some interesting matches in what could unfold to be a good event.
