Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open, Melbourne (hard)

I am concerned about the high temperatures today. Kyle has struggled with the heat in the past so I hope his new training regime in the Bahamas has him well equipped for today.

Hopefully Basilashvili has been honing his preparation in Georgia in December but I suspect not.

If Novak gets a players union going, one thing they can discuss is the scheduling of the US and AO slams, where players collapse and pass out in the heat. If one of your favourite players is a pale skinned redhead, you can probably now place bets online as to at what stage they are going to resemble the shade of a lobster.

A few random age distribution details ...

The L32 is made up of 7 under 25 yos, 13 aged 25 to 29 and 12 aged 30 or over.

The youngest is Andrey Rublev (20) with Sascha Zverev also 20 but born 6 months earlier. The oldest is Karlovic (38) followed by two 36 yos, Federer and Benneteau.

All 7 of the under 25 yos are gathered in the middle two quarters of the draw, with 3 in the second quarter and 4 in the third.

The U25 / 26-29 / 30+ distribution is :
Q1 : 0 / 6 / 2
Q2 : 3 / 2 / 3
Q3 : 4 / 2 / 2
Q4 : 0 / 3 / 5

Yup, an age old discussion over scheduling. Melbourne has been brutal weather wise this month. Kyle will want another quick match as it will get hotter as the match goes on. As stated he hates it

Mr Edmund and Mr Basilashvili have arrived on court and begun their warm-up.

Warming up should not be a problem. Shown on screen as clear ( ie. clear blue ) and 35 degrees C. Seems to be a little breeze.

Basilashvili won the toss and chose to receive.

Go, Kyle !
