This is always the time of the season that you get freak results, withdrawals etc and bang average players like Kyle have a serious shot at going deep in well remunerated tournaments (in £ and points)
Would be good if he can be the one to benefit this year, there are usually a pair of vile semi-finalists in Paris for example. If it goes well enough he could just about attain an ill-deserved seeding for the Australian Open.
Personally I think Kyle should stick to playing doubles in Switzerland but thats more about me than him
Undoubtedly this is a time of year where the dog days of summer have taken their toll and some players have shut down early because they are injured or just spent. But to scoff at the points and prizes on offer here is a bit naive. It is a year long tour and tactically It gives some of the younger players an opportunity to make a deserved rankings move. Thiem tucked a few points away this time of year a couple of years ago to lift himself higher into the top 20. It heartens me that Kyle is fit and here, through development he has on occasions had to shut down because he is spent or had a niggle, physically he is now in much better shape and he has played a full ATP schedule.
A very good result against Ferrer this tournament is very important to him and although there will always be a question mark for me around players who excel on their regular superhuman stamina based performances he is a player I do enjoy watching and tennis is what it is.
Increasingly Kyle will beat players over 30 which has nothing to do with mediocrity just that the top 40 is full of them.

The point that you want to make that Kyle is nothing special comes over loud and clearbut if a player wins enough ranking points over his best 18 tournaments to be seeded at Aussie Open why is it ill-deserved? Obviously a player with less ranking points would not deserve it more so what point were you making here? That we should revert to 16 seeds? That the season is too long or that ranking so be gained over less tournaments?
L16: Kyle Edmund WR 63 beat (Q) Dennis Novak (AUT) WR 284 (CH = 196 in July last year) 7-6(2) 6-7(5) 7-6(3)
QF: Kyle Edmund WR 63 vs Jan-Lennard Struff (GER) WR 51 (CH = 44 Aug 2017)
Struff also won in a 3rd set breaker taking out Albert Ramos.
Ediit: just correcting the spelling of the first part of Struff's Christian name, Bob, & hyphenating it with the second. You starting to suffer from Jay Clarke withdrawal symptoms already?

Kyle will have to step up a bit again to beat Struff who will be difficult on these really fast courts. He served well against Novak but the backhand and returning let him down at times.
Tricky match though against a pumped up opponent, playing above himself in front of a really noisy crowd. Showed a lot of grit to pull through, serving second all the way through the decider and coming from 15-30 down in several service games
QF: Karen Khachanov & Lucas Pouille CR 333 (150+183) defeated (3) Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares (BRA) CR 19 (9+10) by 2-6 7-6(3) [10-7]
The ony fallers by the wayside in the doubles today! Bloody singles players masquerading as doubles players for the hell of it - presumably because they can!

Strange thing is, that when I was looking up Struff's ranking, I saw my error in the name and meant to change it. But I never did.
But just to make me feel better, I have edited your spelling of the word "edit"
