OK. Let's do this properly

L16: Kyle Edmund WR 63 beat (Q) Dennis Novak (AUT) WR 284 (CH = 196 in July last year) 7-6(2) 6-7(5) 7-6(3)

QF: Kyle Edmund WR 63 vs Jan-Lennard Struff (GER) WR 51 (CH = 44 Aug 2017)

Struff also won in a 3rd set breaker taking out Albert Ramos.

Edit:  just correcting the spelling of the first part of Struff's Christian name, Bob, & hyphenating it with the second.  You starting to suffer from Jay Clarke withdrawal symptoms already?   wink

But just to make me feel better, I have edited your spelling of the word "edit" wink

Whoops!    Obviously losing my grip after eight hours plus behind the wheel today...

Yes.  Sorry for your loss.  I didn't know about you family funeral today when I made that comment.

With Gasquet beating (2) Thiem no seeds remain in the bottom ( Kyle's ) half. Though Pouille vs Gasquet looks a decent all French QF.

The two remaining seeds meet in the QFs, (1) Sascha Zverev vs (8) Tsonga, with Schwatzman vs Kohlschreiber completing the QF line-up.

Good to battle out the win today but does indeed look like Kyle will need to step up again to beat Struff with fast courts probably not a help to him.

Funny watching Kyle and Gasquet winning their points followed by complete silence. The crowd is very partisan but at least doesnt try to put off the foreign players.

Break up in the second.

Struff has been poor it must be said.

Great stuff. Is that his first ATP 500 SF then?

Just caught the last couple of points, which is probably a good thing as my blood pressure is high enough already.

Fantastic that Kyle has reached his 1st SF at ATP 500 level and that win should take him back into the Top 50.

Edit

With all Kyle's 2016 points now having dropped out of the system, anything else Kyle can get here or in Paris will be a bonus.

Well done to Kyle, must admit I wouldn't have bet on him today ( if I did bet these days ) once I learned the court was very fast and a bit of a struggle yesterday ( but got across the line and got the W ). He has lacked big points weeks, not getting into 3 figures all year until now, so 180 points ( so far ) is by far his biggest scoring week this year.

... and take him past his total 1001 points from 2016. Now up to 967.

QF:  Kyle Edmund WR 63 vs Lucas Pouille (FRA) WR 25 (CH = 13 in May)

That's not going to be a piece of cake by any stretch of the imagination!

Late 2017 Pouille is not the same as 2016/early 2017 Pouille. He has barely been able to string more than one win together. Kyle definitely has a chance.
