I thought Naomi & Tara weren't in the qualifying draw when I looked on my phone, now I realise I needed to scroll the page over. Heather draws the highest possible ranked player she could have drawn.
One good, one bad. QR1: Tara MOORE (GBR) 199 v. Bethanie MATTEK-SANDS (USA) [q17] 106 (CH 30, Jul. 2011) QR1: Naomi BROADY (GBR) [q13] 84 v. Lauren ALBANESE (USA) 277 (CH 158, Jun. 2009)
I'd say that both QR1 draws are good. Tara had to draw a seed and Mattek-Sands was possibly the seed to get. Her overall singles form this year is actually really poor ( #234 in the race and one main draw win in 2016 ).
In the FQR the winner of Tara's match plays (q11) Giorgi or Dobrowski. The winner of Naomi's match plays (q7) Gibbs or Vickery. That looks relatively not too bad.

Fingers crossed for Tara and Naomi to get through the qualies; it'd be great to have 4 in the MD :)
Heather could have done without that R1 draw; but maybe she's still on cloud nine after becoming a Wimby champion and pull off a blinder...
Jo's draw versus Serena will look a lot better if Serena chips a fingernail in practice, in which case she will withdraw. This is just a practice tournament for the Olympics for Serena.
With 8 seeds getting a bye, Heather Watson, Wimbledon Champion, couldn't have done worse than Kuznetzova(9), but is otherwise in the section of Vinci(7), which could be worse.
The two qualifying draws aren't too bad.
Last year, we only had one entrant here, in qualifying. So one seed, one MD, two Qs is great progress.
Maybe a lot of DFs, still 8 which is clearly far too many, but also 8 aces and 91% points won on first serve. And that serve won't be dropped in the first set.
