Week 19 - ATP Masters 1000 - Internazionali BNL d'Italia - Rome, Italy (clay)

First set Andy 6-1. Glad he seems to be keeping things from being too tiring as he seems likely to be playing 10 matches in about 12 days - wouldn't want him getting too tired before the French

I was just thinking 'I wonder how often a top pro wins only 25% points on their serve in a set?' I just checked and Berdych did it for the whole match yesterday and Djokovic only won 26% first set. There are some weird result around in this tournament recently.

Oh to be Lucas Pouille.

Lost in straight sets to Kukushkin in FQR
Got in as LL when Tsonga withdrew
Bye in R1
Qualifier (Gulbis) in R2
Beat Ferrer in R3 (Guess that's ferrer enough)
W/O in QF when Monaco withdraws
He now awaits the winner of Murray v Goffin

Already guaranteed 360 points (his biggest ever haul) and almost 180k euros in prize money.

Nice work if you can get it.

Dont they sometimes make the next highest ranked unseeded player a seed when one withdraws? Sure that would make sense even more so when they have a bye?

Lol! Just checked in on the 2nd set stats and now Goffin has 100% first serve in, 100% won and Andy is down to 25%! Very early in the set yet but bit of a turn around.

I have seen them do that sometimes.  I guess it depends upon the timing of the withdrawal.  If matches in R1 have already started, it is a bit too late to start shuffling the pack in terms of the draw and so the LL just gets the vacated spot.

Just for the record

QF: (2) Andy Murray WR 3 beat (12) David Goffin (BEL) WR 13 6-1 7-5

SF: (2) Andy Murray WR 3 vs (LLL) Lucas Pouille (FRA) WR 52 (=CH)

Note: LLL = Luckiest of Lucky Losers

If you've read through the thread, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Now must hope that Andy reaches the starting line against LLL.

It will be one "L" of a shame if he doesn't.

If you want to add to Mr Pouille's luckiness, as a result of his run of luck this week, he will climb to 31 in the rankings and hence be seeded at Roland Garros.

And I STILL bear a grudge against him for turning up as a WC two years ago at the 10k in Romania, completely over-ranked, beating Tom Allen in R1 and then dropping out coz his RG wildcard had come through.... :::(((

Rafa and Nole seem to be doing well at wearing each other out currently. Long may it continue as however unfair it seems a big part of me is hoping that Rafa wins and stays 5th seed in Paris and they do it all over again (hoping too I dont get half my wish and Rafa gets 5th seed in Paris and draws Andy).

Djokovic won 7-5 7-6 (4) so Nadal will certainly be #5 seed for the French Open if all relevant parties are present.

Hypo speaking, draw wise, what would the ideal for Murray at the frog open.

Avoid Nadal in the QF and having Nishikoir in the sf?
