Week 19 - ATP Masters 1000 - Internazionali BNL d'Italia - Rome, Italy (clay)

This makes such a nice change! Happy birthday Andy! Surely got to help psychologically even if Novak was understandably exhausted - it's not normally stopped him. And surely the best possible timing to get such a psychological blow in too. Hoping it can start some momentum in Andy's favour in their rivalry at the most opportune time there's been for it in for 4 years.

Even if Murray looses to Djokovic in Paris if he keeps that close enough I think he might have and edge at Wimbledon (if not mentally just game style-wise/home support-wise) - I still think that despite the string of losses to Djokovic Andy has a kind of edge there based on the fact that when he beat him at the Olympics and Wimbledon he won all 5 sets they played.

It would seem a real injustice if either of them lost to Nadal in the quarters at the French really.

My own theory is not that Djoko is exhausted (although there must be an element of that) but that he SO wants a good clay court season culminating in the RG crown that he is tight and anxious about it.  Albeit that he has usually come through, there have been some really surprising scores for him this clay court run.  I suspect he feels he won't be in the absolute peak of his powers for much longer so it's now or never for that career slam.

Just noticed that this means that Mr. Murray now has won more Masters 1000s than Mr. Sampras. Just Mr. Agassi to go then the "Big 4" stand together at the top.
