Weeks 3-4 - Australian Open 2016 (men's)

Is anyone else worried by the canadian servebot who awaits? He is in great form. For the sports sake, I hope andy wins, I hate servebots, so boring.

I don't mind them too much for contrast although won't rush to watch a match between two of them !  And you don't get to Slam SFs with no other skills ( as you say his form is good ), though general point taken

Many ways to skin a cat, and if you develop a stength fair dos to use it. And as long as they are generally pretty firmly put in their place and the conditions are such that the very top players tend to evolve as they have it's all good

And, no, I'm not hugely worried. I think Andy will prevail, maybe in four sets.

I am concerned that Fed and Djoker play 1 day before Andy. The winner will get 2 days to rest and prepare and if Andy and Milos play a long match that is going to be a big advantage to the winner of the first semi final. Also not thrilled to hear on commentary last night that bad weather is expected at the end of the week and the final may be played with the roof closed, in that scenario hard to see anyone stopping Djokovic from winning another major.

I wouldn't be overconcerned about the day extra, a day between matches is still fine and really their general routine.

Being played indoors would be more of a concern and undoubtably Andy would prefer outdoors, though Id say it would be a match vs Fed that would be more effected than vs Novak.

By the way, I believe David Ferrer has gone equal top with Gilles Simon as Andy's most vanquished pro opponent, though Gilles has had less victories.

Record vs Simon : 13-2
Record vs Ferrer : 13-6

It was a more fun stat when it was headed by Fed for a while, but he's rather neglected to lose to Andy much at all over recent years ( record now 11-14 ).

If Andy wins tomorrow, he wiil catch up with his brother, who is, by my calculations, going to be WR2 for doubles players on Monday. Should Andy lose, he will be WR3.

I believe that Jamie also has to win one more match ( i.e. the doubles final ) to become WR 2.

For 'just' reaching the final I still have him behind Rojer and Tecau ( as well as clearly Melo ) at provisional WR 4. A fellow poster in the doubles thread came to the same conclusion.

Going towards the deep end. Keep your head above water, mate.

With Andy wobbling a little as Raonic developes an apparent injury, I presume Djokovic is out on the practice court honing his jelly-legs routine.

After a sinking feeling, found some of his breast strokes to crawl to parity

Phew SF:  (2) Andy Murray WR 2 defeated (3) Milos Raonic (CAN) WR 14 by 4-6 7-5 4-7(4) 6-4 6-2  (in four hours & two minutes hmm )

*****

As per the seeding:

Final:  (1) Novak Djokovic WR 1 vs (2) Andy Murray WR 2

The Djoker has the Indian sign on Andy, who trails the head to head by 9:21, including three AO finals (2011, 2013 & 2015) & one semi-final (2012), Andy's only two victories over him in a Grand Slam final coming at the USO in 2012 & Wimbledon in 2013.  hmm

And Wimbledon 2013, surely? confuse

Either way, well done Andy on making another GS final
Djokovic looks, frankly, other worldly, but if Vinci could beat Serena, anythings possible.

Both the Murray brothers in a Grand Slam final at the same event. Has that ever happened before - two siblings making the final at the same slam, when they're not on the same team (so excluding the Bryans, for instance)? Remarkable.
