At *1-2, Simon was 40-0 up. Djokovic won five straight points, and then cruised home. His mental strength is amazing.

Well done on our men's singles stepping up to the plate so that GB have representatives in all five senior L16s ( I throw it out there that that must be extremely unusual )

As far as I can see, so do Australia and the USA, plus the Czech Republic and Spain could yet still.

Spain miss out on the mixed doubles L16, so while 5 countries have reps in the L16 of the men's and women's singles and doubles, counting mixed doubles as well, there are just 4 nations with reps in the five senior L16s :

GBR, AUS, USA & CZE

A bit crotchety, a bit under par, but efficiently through to face Ferrer, who easily blunted Isner earlier.

L16:  (2) Andy Murray WR 2 defeated (16) Bernard Tomic (AUS) WR 17 by 6-4 6-4 7-6(4)

*****

QF:  (8) David Ferrer (ESP) WR 8 (CH = 3 in July 2013) vs (2) Andy Murray WR 2

Andy leads the head-to-head by 12:6, Andy having won the last five encounters, most recently in the WTF last November (4 & 4).  Ferrer hasn't beaten him since the last 16 of the Shanghai Masters in 2014 (5-7 6-2 7-5).

Andy seems to have the Indian sign over the young Aussies particularly in slams. Andy different class but there was the odd wobble that a more confident player may well have taken advantage of. I really like Ferrer leaves it all on court a few more inches and he would make the big 4

To be fair, when you are playing against other Top 20 players over a best of 5 set match, it is very unlikely you are going to be dominant from start to finish.  There will always be periods in the match when the opponent gets the upper hand, however brief those periods may be.  Overall, particularly given that Andy hasn't had the best preparation for this match given the off court issues over the last couple of days, I think this was an excellent performance, especially from a mental perspective.
