RE: Boys & Girls: Nike Junior International, Liverpool, Hard - Grade 5 (Week 46)

Thanks for the report Paul. I see that the 13 year old American (Dakota Fordham) only got one game off Alice Gillan, but she is four years older.

Great report, paulisi - lots of names there I've never seen play live. All now duly noted for future reference !

As you say, there's a big age difference in many of the matches, which distorts things a bit.

Hope you manage to make it on Friday, if not before.

Enjoy !

Friday is the plan, no chance before.
It was the remainder of the singles and all the doubles today.

Big congrats to Marni Banks, born Oct. 2002, who def. the JWR 689 sixth seed in a third-set tie-break.

She plays our other 2002, Emma Raducanu, in the next round

Big win also for qualifier millie Devey Smith, against 2nd seed Camille Anderson

Don't read anything into rankings at this level. It's down to how often you play at this level at that age and is not a fair judge of ability.

Emma will beat Marni

I'm not reading anything into it.I know full well the worth of junior rankings smile

I'm just noting it so the player gets their fair share of the accolade which is quite rightly due to them.

I shall watch for the Emma vs Marni result with interest

Really very early days of course for both.

Emma is the favourite, no question.

It's a real shame that Holly Fischer isn't based in the UK - from the very little I've seen, I'd say that she's a fair way better than both of them.

But, as you say, Indy, very early days .....

Personally, I set no store by adult rankings either until you get to about WR 500 or so.

Just nice to see the youngsters playing and following their path, as the French would say.

Some of the girls results have been posted and went as expected in my opinion

Lauryn JOHN-BAPTISTE (GBR) [1] 7-6(4) 6-3 Hannah MCCOLGAN (GBR)
Nika ZUPANCIC (SLO) [4] 6-3 6-4 Maria BUDIN (GBR)
Esther ADESHINA (GBR) 6-3 6-4 Alexandra HUNTER (GBR) [5]
Emma RADUCANU (GBR) 6-2 5-7 6-4 Amarni BANKS (GBR)
Martina PALADINI JENNINGS (GBR) 6-0 6-1 Essence MARTINS (GBR)
Olivia ELLIOTT (GBR) 6-1 1-6 6-1 Millie DEVEY SMITH (GBR)

That's a big win for Martina. Olivia and Esther are 14, Emma 13 - the future looks bright.

The last two QF places in the girls went to Alice Gillan and Sophia Derivan

The other places in the boys went to Ewan Lumsden, Damian Rodriguez, the Pole and the Swiss player.

No luck today for the 13 year olds in the doubles.

Interesting that, I suppose doubles favours taller plays and there is less of a premium on mobility; experience perhaps also an advantage. Early days but I hope for one or two of these 13/14 year olds doubles is an irrelevance once out of juniors.

Well, 6-4 in the third set was close smilesmilesmile

Nice to see the G5 in the UK being used as a springboard for our younger lot.

This is the first ranking points for the likes of Emma and Marni (although Lilian Mould, also 2002, has a few points from the doubles in Nottingham this year)
