Katie Swan returns to action for this US Open warm-up event. Both boys have relatively friendly round 1 draws but Ryan will meet second seed Yunseong Chung if successful.
As expected Alexis and Ryan claim opening wins. Alexis's R2 opponent won a G1 earlier in the month while Ryan's, though in the ATP top 1000, was forced to retire from his last match.
Boys R1 (L64)
Alexis Canter d. (WC) Elijah Ogilvy (CAN) 6-4 4-6 6-1
Ryan James Storrie d. (LL) Sami Kirberg (USA) 6-0 3-6 6-1
R2
Alexis Canter v (8) Alberto Lim (PHI)
Ryan James Storrie v (2) Yunseong Chung (KOR)
Different kind of pressure for Katie here. Let's see how she reacts.
Be great if she can win the title here, but no doubt plenty very good players.
So if she progresses well and looks in good nick ahead of the US Open I'd be pretty happy and not bothered if we hear again about her not having won a junior singles title above grade whatever it is.
Ryan James Storrie def. (LL) Sami Kirberg (USA) 6-0 3-6 6-1
Alexis' next opponent is 8th seed, Alberto Lim (PHI). He made the quarters last week. Ryan gets second seed, Chung (KOR). He retired in his previous match in last week's G1. But that was put down to fatigue as he'd flown in from Asia only the day before (having gone deep in some tournament over there). Probably feels fine now . . .

Interesting to also see, Chung only quit the singles going very deep in the doubles! So as you say likely to be fit and ready to go against Ryan.
Ryan turned 17 at the end of February and Alexis in June, I presume they have another year as a juniors and if they chooses to ie can play all the slams and grade 1 tournaments again next year?
In doubles Katie has paired up with local girl Charlotte Robillard-Millette as top seeds, and their opener is on the main court in the early hours, so might be streamed (this tournament often has a stream from the main court for the evening matches, but I can't find one at the moment). Emily resumes her long-standing partnership with Emilie Francati while Maia teams up with ex-Brit Naiktha Bains.
Girls R2
(1) Katie Swan v (WC) Tiffany Legarde (CAN)
Raquel Pedraza (USA) v (9) Emily Arbuthnott bye
(15) Maia Lumsden v TBD
Robillard-Millette had some quite good doubles results earlier this summer - including with another Canadian, beating the number 1 seeds at the Gatineau 25K.
Although Emily is in her last junior year, she is only just over three months older than Maia ( October 1997 to January 1998 ) and appears this year to have been progressing faster and has been rather more visible in seniors.
Ryan has played some of the top juniors this year and done pretty well taking them to 3 sets. He seems a pretty independent young man if reports on here are to be believed he is over in Canada on his own and he had to dig out results against seniors as an U16 as he was excluded from high level junior competition when living in California. Let's hope he gets a decent run here and at the US open to set him up for next year.
Merv, I don't seem to remember any 'shocking' results. In fact, given he's only playing top-tier junior events (but is outside the top 100) I don't think he could have had any shocking results i.e. he's only playing people ranked higher (or occasionally the same).
Also, and as Oakie refers to, his path has been very unconventional. i.e. until 18 months ago or so was playing purely adult tennis, as part of the local Californian programme, no extra or federation help, never played on clay, never did proper fitness training, no international experience etc. etc.
And then a lot of upheaval, moving countries, finding a new club, a new 'elite' training programme, really moving up a gear (or five), in expectations as much as anything.
I saw him play at the Nike G1 event. Took the top-5 US boy right down to the wire. A great match.
Him and Alexis lost their doubles yesterday, 10-8, in the MTB, which is a shame, but a day of rest today and fingers crossed for a good singles run.
NB Ireland's Bjorn Thomson (who made the semis in the ITF15k in Dublin) is also in the last 16, having put out the 8th seed.
