RE: Weeks 21-22 - Roland Garros men's main draw (Andy)

According to the OoP on the R-G site, play in the match will resume at noon BST tomorrow.  Here's hoping the interruption works in Andy's favour after he engineered that early break only to hand it straight back!

Wow!  There's a turn-up for the books:  Inverdale's just announced that the rest of the match will be shown live on ITV1!

Well. I missed almost the whole match so far. I left to go to out at 3-3 in the first set. A hour and a half later, I managed to sit down in a cafe with Wifi for 15 mins, When I turned on the score on the RG App, I had a shock.

The score read: Winner : Andy Murray 3-6 3-6 0-1 retired.

I had to do a double take. I even showed a friend of mine and he said "that's probably the only way to beat Djokovic at the moment." So I am sitting there happily contemplating a Murray v Wawrinka final when I thought - check again, just in case.

The score had corrected itself and the match was underway again. I was not a happy bunny.

Anyway, still lots to play for. Go Muzza. This is far from over.

I saw very little of the match, but I can't imagine that this overnight interruption does other than improve Andy's chances.

Of course, Novak will rightly remain strong favourite to win, most likely in four sets.

But a further set and a half on the day, both of which Andy would have had to win, to complete a five set triumph or a one and a half sets comparative sprint tomorrow, again both needing to be won?

I know which I'd choose for Andy against Novak.

scottie, sometimes infuriating yes, but generally I find it an absolute priviledge to be able to watch such a great player representing Britain. As a fellow Scot, Andy being Scottish adds even more.

The guy has achieved so much and has of late so upped his level again that he is currently generally probably playing the second best tennis on the planet.

Try to enjoy him a bit more !

Hey, he's not Scottish yet - I think he still has a good chance tomorrow. British still.

Incredible standard of play from both players today. Marred by Djokovic developing another of his medical conditions that has no effect whatsoever on his play; only on his behaviour between points. He is now taking this play-acting right into the realms where it is actually simulation - and cheating.

Andy began extracting the urine out of this. I shan't add any comparison between Nole and Serena, because Tara Moore's twitter feed.

Djokovic 2 sets v Andy 1 set + the crowd. 3-3 in the fourth.

They are the best two players in the world right now, imho. Unbelievable tennis today. Shame about the unbelievable medical non-condition.

Andy, though, should be flattered that Nole only seems to develop the symptoms of chronic hypochondria in his presence.

We will not see a better British player again in the next 10-15 years I'm certain of that maybe longer. He doesn't get the credit he deserves I think if he was English he probably would but that's another story. So like Indiana says enjoy him while we can over the next 5 years because it's hard to see anyone else going deep in slams. The odds are against it with only a very small chance of maybe Kyle getting there. I don't see it sadly.

Unless another prodigy happens along, I think it could be a lot more than 10-15 years before GB has a player of Mr Murray's like again. That's not a slur against Mr Edmund, who has the potential to be a top player. It's just that Mr Murray is extraordinary, whether you like him or not - one of four players who have de facto shut out nearly everyone else from almost all the top prizes for nearly a decade. Those of us who enjoy tennis should indeed, as you suggest, enjoy and be grateful.

What is there not to like about the best British tennis player of the modern era. I can cope with the odd expletive in battle. In all other respects he is the perfect role model for an aspiring elite tennis player.

At the moment we are spoilt. It is fantastic that his generation is so competitive at the very elite level, their progress through slams is fascinating, like watching a living organism evolve, climaxing in the constant titanic struggling against Djok, Fed and Rafa producing games worth organising your day around, good enough kids to get kids to turn over from the " next step' and sit enthralled.

For someone who as a kid was board to death by Bijon, and turned off for the careers of Sampras and Lendel, and the early dominance of Fed this is a goldern time, it may never be do good!

I'm with Indiana; think the weather break will have helped Andy's cause: recent encounters with Nole have been toe-to-toe very close slugfests for 3 hours followed by Andy running out of gas; not a problem now...fingers crossed Andy hits the ground running today :)

Apart from some trolls (whose opinions count for diddly squat), don't agree that Andy is not afforded the respect or support he deserves from English fans; it's not scientific but my ancient father is probably typical: didn't like Andy's on-court behaviour when he first burst onto the scene but within a very short period of time all blemishes were being overlooked because his world class tennis ability earned full respect and enthusiastic support.

With Fed and Rafa on the wane, Muzz is definitely top 2 at the moment (he got to #2 before but somehow that felt slightly flukey at the time; this feels the real deal); 2 GS final wins against Nole puts him right up there; here's hoping he can find a few more over the next couple of years. :)

PS: Don't agree that Borg and Sampras were boring; they were special as were their match-ups against McEnroe and Agassi; I put Andy v Nole in the same bracket when Andy's on :)

Indy I love watching Andy but feel I am playing every point myself lol When he misses those overheads it does my head in! I get nervous watching him in these situations. Yes because he is Scottish that I have these feelings only other player that got me like that was Bally Watched Henman several times but he did not pull the heartstrings

He's certainly Scottish.  Scottish and British, just as you can be Welsh or English and British.
