I've not seen Tom on any entries lists for the next few weeks, so I can only assume finances are preventing him from playing full time on tour. Given the lack of futures in GB, he will struggle to keep that ranking.
As I have mentioned before I believe he is the most naturally talented player and if he played full time could make top 200 easily.
I don't believe it's finances. He has a base in the south of France, at the club where he lived for a long time, and where his brother was coach. (I don't mean he's actually based there but he has very long-standing contacts with them, used to live there for a while, and played league tennis there last year, so must have friends, could train there etc. etc. i.e. could use it as a base if he wanted.)
His brother was then coaching in the Middle East, so he probably has contacts and a base out there.
I just think he has other things going on (although I might be quite wrong). His brother is more of a tennis businessman now, with quite a few things in the air, from what I understand, so my guess is that Tom is involved with his brother, to a greater or lesser extent, and isn't 100% on full-time tennis. (As I say, though, may well be wrong).

Sean & Marcus were a set and 3-5 down and not very happy with the umpiring but turned it around.
I was chatting to an English umpire at the Fed Cup and he said that Marcus was the toughest player to umpire, he also said they were also the most interesting matches to umpire.

Just to provide some backing for my post, I've only seen him live twice at Wrexham and Wirral.
Wrexham - had a huge tantrum at the umpire for most of the first set in his match with Rhett over calling of lines
Wirral - got given a warning in his very first game against Nicolas, which he disputed and asked for the supervisor.(the rest of the game was played in quite good spirits)
On the other hand I saw Marcus play two matches in Edinburgh ( a QF and SF both on the same day ).
He was absolutely ( and from memory I do mean absolutely ) no direct problem to the umpire in either.
In the first he played an Aussie who did have temperament issues and at one stage whacked a ball onto the road back into the city centre ( which from the court position was no mean feat. The Aussie's behavior clearly amused Marcus and didn't really disturb him and he was giving quite an amusing running commentary at times. This may have further wound up our Aussie friend, but nothing out of order or causing umpire intervention.
In the SF he played Liam in a nice match played in a good spirit. There was only one point at issue, a Liam shot called out that the umpire checked the mark for, but Liam suggested it was the wrong mark. As Liam at long range made suggestions to the supervisor ( in the stand ) that she might like to come down, Marcus was all diplomatic and gracious that if that was thought necessary sure she should come down. She didn't and the point stood for Marcus.
So I've never in person seen him cause an issue for umpires. But he is a bright guy, I suspect can play the game and I could imagine if felt wronged could be a handful. I think I can probably see why that umpire said Marcus matches could be "interesting" rather than was partcularly negative about him.
Marcus' attitude to umpires varies considerably. When he is in good mood his absolutely fine, when he is a bad mood he is horrible.
In fairness I would say that several of the regulars on the British futures scenes are pretty bad with their attitudes towards the officials. I sometimes wonder how the umpires manage to keep their cool with some of the abuse that is directed at them.
