RE: Week 4 - Great Britain F2 ($10,000) - Sunderland (Hard)

Also Halys really should have won the junior US Open last year. He was easily the better player in the final (against Jasika) for the first hour and led 6-2, *5-4 but failed to serve it out and lost 6-2, 5-7, 1-6.

Just waiting for some twitter bods to start asking what the hell was going on in the Corrie vs Halys match !

And the answer is probably a rather hot and cold young Frenchman.

Nice win for James. In fact, for last year, up until mid-December, James had only made one QF. Just one 2-pointer, and a bunch of R2 losses, for the whole year.

Since Dec., he's made a final and now made two QFs in a row. Admittedly all 10k, but a big step in the right direction. After previous comments (quite reasonably) about how poor a year it had been for James, it's nice to see it suddenly going a bit better for him.

'Twill be interesting to see how Alex, who's just beaten Scott Griekspoor in straight sets, handles him!

I was amused to see a recent Pew Centre survey of which nations in the EU regarded which nations as most/least hardworking, trustworthy, etc. On the trustworthy side, it was generally pretty rough going for Greece and Italy (curiously, the Italians rated themselves the least trustworthy ....), except that Eastern Europeans didn't think much of the Germans ... and Britons didn't think much of the French. Perhaps all the Brits surveyed were tennis players or fans, aware of the French predilection for coming to UK futures and winning points ....

Jesting aside, Halys does seem to be a bit unlikely to be in Futures forever ... hope that Mr Ward, for whom one can only have high hopes this year, can handle him.

The draw has opened right up in the top half. Alex is the only seed left and if he should overcome the unpredictable Frenchman then he should make the final.

Whereas the bottom half is loaded and we should see an all Dan semi final

Youngsters Ewan Moore and Pete Bothwell (IRE) get a walkover into the SF of the doubles (JWH - presumably - being the reason behind the withdrawal). First proper doubles points, I assume, for them :)

Alex v Dan final I think. Won't specify which Dan though

Wonder who will get WC's next week?! When will we find out?

As far as i'm aware there are no main draw wildcards for challengers. Just qualifying wildcards.

Most of the Brits will make qualifying without the need for a wildcard. So I suspect Evo or some of the juniors will pick up the qualifying wildcards

There are 4 main draw wild cards for Challengers, if I remember correctly.
