RE: Coaching by Mauresmo

Well, I don't know if it will help her with andy but Amelie has certainly got her work cut out this week and weekend.

Came in for a fair bit of stick yesterday (going 0-2 down against the Italians - hats off to Giorgi who played a blinder and beat Alizé, who's never been a favourite of mine, or even close).

But Amelie's dropped Alizé today and played Kiki and got a great result against Errani. Now to see if Giorgi can do it again - this time v Garcia.

Amélie (or the players, or both) doing an amazing job so far today at turning it around and bringing it home against the very experienced Italian pair. Our James doing a good job in the chair too . . .

NB James made a complete boo-boo at 5-1 30-30, got it absolutely wrong and was in no position at all to call it. But it didn't make any difference ultimately.

More cheer for Mauresmo fans...

In coaching Bartoli to a Wimbledon win, she'd already surpassed anything Lendl achieved with Murray.

Should Mauresmo sack Murray?

Bartoli was much less likely prospect to win Wimbledon that Murray by a long shot. Chez les bookies, her odds before the tournament would have been much longer than Murray's. At a guess, something like 50/1 Bartholi; 5/1 Murray.

Additionally, before Murray won anything significant with Lendl, he won the Olympics without him.

I was being deliberately contentious, (or tongue-in-cheek) but I do think that the Bartoli victory was very surprising; that a lot of credit should be given to her coach. And that it seemed a very obvious move that when the Wimbledon '13 Men's Champ lost his coach before Wimbledon '14, he turned to the coach of the Wimbledon'13 Women's champ as a replacement.

Lendl was Andy's coach for about 6 months before the Olympics, I don't think the fact that he wasn't actually there means he had nothing to do with it.

Andy started working with Lendl shortly before the Aussie Open 2012, so he did win the Olympics with Lendl. As well as the US Open 2012 and Wimbledon 2013 and being runner up in Wimbledon 2012 and the Aussie Open 2013.

Don't know what the odds were on that little collection :)

Ah, I hadn't considered physical presence ( OK, in truth I forgot Lendl wasn't actually at the Olympics ).

But as Madeline suggests it was hardly as if Andy's very positive performances at the Olympics didn't owe a fair deal to Lendl.

Probably on the 'phone or Skype to him, every ten minutes. Modern communications do work, you know.

A little more flesh to put on the bare bones of Goldfish's post - from the Beeb's rolling sports news page:

Murray adds new coach

Tennis

Posted at 11:34

Andy Murray is set to add former world number four Jonas Björkman to his coaching team.

Bjorkman

The Scot has been looking for a second coach to work alongside Amélie Mauresmo since splitting from long-time team member Dani Vallverdu in November.

Swede Björkman will spend a week with Murray at some point in the next month with a view to joining the team on a permanent basis.

*  I added the accents... wink

Looks as though it could be for more than a month if the trial works out.

Jonas can be a bit of a tool, according to a respected contact of mine, but hopefully he can have success with Andy.

 Can't we all

Still, I can see a fit. I have reservations about him not rubbing up against Amelie though.
