Stunning win by Liam, I wish I'd been able to see it all! It's his first top 100 scalp (previous best Dancevic WR 148) and to do it from a set down against a player who thrashed him 1 & 1 only a month ago must make it even sweeter
L32: Ed Corrie WR 217 beat Darian King (BAR) WR 310 (CH 302 earlier this month) by 6-4 6-6(5-2*) default
L32: Liam Broady WR 235 beat (2) Tim Smyczek (USA) WR 97 (CH 73 last Nov) by 4-6 6-2 6-4
L16: Ed Corrie WR 217 v (6) James Duckworth (AUS) WR 150 (CH 132 last Nov)
L16: Liam Broady WR 235 v Peter Torebko (GER) WR 243 (CH 182 in 2012) *
* H2H 0-1 - Torebko won 7-6(3) 6-3 in Tipton in 2012 (he was also the top seed at Manchester 15K last week, when he went out to a qualifier in R1)

I must admit, I wasn't expecting Liam to win when the draw came out (though I was obviously hoping it would be a bit closer this time) but I had an inkling that he was really up for it today when he asked me for the USTA stream link so that he could tweet it before the match - not something I think many players would be brave enough to do when they were about to face a player who had thrashed them 1 & 1 only a few weeks earlier.
By saying that, I'm breaking my rule of never revealing anything about of DMs from players (or indeed anyone else) without explicit permission but I can't see it doing any harm in this case, given that it's neither controversial nor potentially embarrassing and it's great that he was feeling that confident AND managed to prove that confidence was very well-placed

My gut feeling with the singles results erratic and singles ranking in decline I have always felt that Marcus's best prospects were in doubles and for me it's about getting the right doubles partner that can cut the mustard in challengers ! So this current US tour will be an interesting acid test .
I just watched a replay of most of Liam's match. I was really impressed with the way he fought for every point, and I was also impressed with his attitude and desire. Smyczek did not play poorly in my opinion - Liam out-rallied him and played him off the court.
I get the impression that Liam has worked to make his serve more aggressive also.
Really mature professional performance - Liam is developing quickly and a pleasure to watch.
Great to see more British players stepping up and long may it continue.
